Classification

Grandmasters are cultivators whose power, comprehension, and combat ability place them far above ordinary practitioners. The title may describe an established realm, but it is also used comparatively for exceptional younger figures whose foundations and bearing foreshadow that level. 105 116 128

In its precise cultivation sense, Grandmaster designates someone who has reached the profound heights or apex of the Fifth Realm, close to the Sixth Realm. It is not automatically synonymous with every Fifth-Realm cultivator. Master has become the common designation for early Fifth-Realm beings, although historically that title required at least Mid-Fifth-Realm cultivation; an early Fifth-Realm practitioner would formerly have been called a Pseudo-Grandmaster. 505 524 529

The Immortal Path’s Fifth Realm is Pure Yang, but attaining Pure Yang alone does not establish that someone is a true Grandmaster. Zhou Zhengran, for example, is explicitly described as a Fifth-Realm Pure Yang Master. Experts within this broad level are not equal in strength: their inheritances, experience, treasures, and mastery of Dao arts create major differences. 514 515

Terminology is not completely uniform. Entry into the Fifth Realm is sometimes described broadly as entering the “Grandmaster Domain” or attaining the “Grandmaster Position,” even when the practitioner is subsequently distinguished from true apex-Fifth-Realm Grandmasters. Earlier accounts also call confrontations involving Sixth-Realm Ancestors “Grandmaster Level” battles. These broad usages must be distinguished from the stricter hierarchy of Master, Grandmaster, and Ancestor. 248 311 570 583 594 614

Young Grandmasters

“Teenage Grandmaster” is an evaluative title for youths whose foundation exceeds normal standards rather than proof of an attained Grandmaster realm. Qin Ming applies the comparison to himself after reaching nine thousand jin following six New Lives—more than the strength attributed to many Teenage Aberrants after nine transformations. 116

Meng Xinghai similarly describes Qin Ming as resembling a “Teenage Grandmaster lying low” after he develops a personal circulation path from a scripture that had stumped many historical Grandmasters. 128

The comparison also concerns composure, technical mastery, and command of a fight. During Qin Ming’s confrontation with Yu Zhuohan, a spectator identifies his calm neutralization of the Esoteric Sect youth’s attacks as the genuine bearing of a Young Grandmaster, a phrase already circulating in the Night Report. Neither youth has thereby attained the Fifth Realm. 137

Peerless and Supreme Grandmasters

• Peerless Grandmaster: An expert who towers above an entire generation. The designation indicates exceptional standing within the realm rather than a separate numbered cultivation realm. 341
• Supreme Grandmaster: An expert representing the strongest attainment of the level, described as having no opponent in the same realm. Such a cultivator may begin challenging Sixth-Realm Ancestors before personally entering that realm. 315 341 731
• Transition to Ancestor: Entering the Sixth Realm takes a practitioner beyond the Grandmaster stage. Lu Zizai’s breakthrough is explicitly described as leaving the world with one fewer Supreme Grandmaster and one more Ancestor. 341

Characteristics

Cultivation Thresholds and Accumulation

The barrier into the Fifth Realm is compared to a Heavenly Chasm that obstructs countless geniuses, including Immortal Seeds and God Seeds. Profound foundations and rare Great Medicine are important, while some cultivators also require life-and-death struggles to break through. 583

A separate Grandmaster Obstacle concerns the accumulation and recovery needed after crossing a major realm threshold. The body requires time to stabilize and expel residual toxins and other remnants from previously consumed medicines. This interval varies dramatically: some cultivators need only half a year, while others remain obstructed for decades. Resources alone therefore cannot guarantee rapid advancement. 618

Qin Ming’s calculations illustrate the increasing difficulty of progress: without further opportunities or Strange Medicine, he estimates six or seven years of ordinary cultivation for a single level and roughly sixty years to reach the Ancestor Realm. Even his unusual foundation does not make repeated breakthroughs effortless. 618 619

The following includes confirmed Grandmasters and figures associated with the title’s broader usage. Where the text distinguishes a Master or Ancestor from a true Grandmaster, that distinction is noted.

Supreme Good Grandmaster

Supreme Good Grandmaster is a sobriquet attached to Qin Ming’s Zheng Guang identity. It arises from his repeated claims of compassion and kindness despite his lethal treatment of enemies. Observers in the Savage Immortal Realm initially use the name mockingly, while Qin Ming accepts it as fitting his supposed character. 597

The name subsequently becomes part of his public identity. He introduces himself to Du Chen as Zheng Guang, also called the Supreme Good Grandmaster, and uses the same reputation while dealing with the Traveler Civilization and other major organizations. Jiang Ran later recognizes the association, while hostile acquaintances privately consider “Grandmaster of Supreme Evil” a more suitable description. 608 614 687 694

Role in the Story

• The title first appears as an aspiration applied to exceptional young fighters, such as He Tai, who is praised as a future grandmaster of boxing. 105
• Qin Ming’s abnormal New Life foundation repeatedly earns comparison to Grandmaster-level figures, beginning with his mastery of Wu Ji Fist and his six-New-Life physical strength. 116
• The confrontation surrounding Cao Qianqiu illustrates the broader use of “Grandmaster Level” for battles among the leading figures of the cultivation paths, including Ancestors. Their settlement concerns the New Life Path’s standing and future wilderness expansion. 248
• Grandmasters serve as commanders and frontline elites in Night Prefecture’s wars against the Nomadic Hunting Civilization and Demon Race. Their battles expose major differences within the rank, particularly when Lu Zizai crushes opponents considered formidable by other Grandmasters. 309 312 313 331 338
• Lu Zizai’s Supreme Grandmaster achievements establish that exceptional Fifth-Realm cultivators can threaten newly advanced Ancestors. His subsequent Sixth-Realm breakthrough clearly marks the transition out of the Grandmaster stage. 315 341
• High-level Fifth-Realm cultivators become direct opponents as Qin Ming’s cultivation rises; his battle with the Pure Yang Master Zhou Zhengran establishes that he can challenge established experts while still far younger than normal for the level. 514
