Only after the bottle was empty did the two leave the Mirror Labyrinth that had shielded them from outside eyes and return to the pitch-black wilderness.
By then, it was the following morning, when lightning flashed frequently. Angel put away the table, chairs, and leftovers to keep any passing Amon or other mythical creature from discovering them. Then she looked Klein over with a satisfied expression and asked:
"Was there something you needed me for, calling me over early this time?"
She and Klein had originally agreed that she would "deliver a meal" every six weeks, but only a month had passed since her last visit. Moreover, the message had been relayed through Mr. Fool, leading Angel to believe something had happened in the Forsaken Land of the Gods. She had hurried over.
No longer as energetic as before, Klein looked a little listless as he picked up the lantern from the ground. By its dim yellow light, he pointed in a direction and replied:
"There's something interesting over there. I thought I should have you come take a look with me."
"If you'd said that last night, I would have been more interested."
Angel chuckled and gazed into the distance in that direction, only to discover that even though Dark Vision allowed her to see far beyond an ordinary person's range, she still couldn't see through the darkness enveloping the entire Forsaken Land of the Gods.
"I meant something serious."
Klein added this helplessly, then walked forward with the lantern.
"Of course I meant something serious too."
Angel muttered, rousing herself from the contentment of their intimacy. She scanned their surroundings warily and followed closely behind him.
Their back-and-forth conversation vanished into the darkness along with the lantern's faint glow.
