He was raised with the care of Aunt Yami and his childhood sweetheart and fiancée, Hyuga Yue 7.

Yei's early career saw him as a Chunin, noted for his Byakugan and ability to detect enemy movements, making him an outstanding ninja 1. He later became a Special Jonin and an Anbu member, a promotion influenced by Hizashi, who had a close relationship with Yei's father 60. Yei's rise in rank and successful S-rank missions, including two with Shisui Uchiha, caught the attention of the Hyuga Clan's higher-ups, leading Clan Leader Hiashi to offer him access to the clan's Secret Vault as a reward 109.
