Identity and Namesake

• Two separate women use the name Xiao Yi Xian. Nalan Chaoge’s companion initially identifies herself as an impostor employed by the Myriad Medicine Pavilion. He later insists that her compassion makes her the “true” Xiao Yi Xian 267.
• Their poison bodies have different origins. Chaoge’s companion possesses an innate constitution; the woman known to Xiao Yan develops an acquired Woeful Poison Body through poison consumption and the Seven-Colored Poison Scripture 265 510.
• Their loyalties oppose one another. The acquired bearer leads the Poison Sect’s invasion of the Jia Ma Empire, while the innate bearer returns with Chaoge and challenges her 506 508.
• The Poison Sect Master’s death is not this character’s death. The other woman detonates herself; Chaoge’s companion survives, absorbs the released poison, and advances to Dou Zun 509 510 512.

History

Qingshan Town and the Herb-Gathering Expedition

After the original Xiao Yi Xian leaves Qingshan Town, the Myriad Medicine Pavilion uses another woman under her name. The replacement consciously tries to embody the person she believes Xiao Yi Xian should be, rather than merely benefit from the identity 255 263 267.

During a herb-gathering expedition, she defends Nalan Chaoge—then traveling as Yi Shui—when the Tiger Head Mercenary Group’s Young Leader attempts to rob him. She poisons the attacker and withholds the antidote until their return to town. Afterward, she reorganizes the remaining travelers into defensive teams and questions Chaoge about the inconsistencies in his disguise 263.

Her observations reveal that a powerful magical beast accompanying Chaoge has been keeping other beasts away. Rather than demand his secrets, she asks him to remember her and help if she is ever hunted or endangered. He agrees, acknowledging that she helped save him 264.

Poison Outbreak and Departure

Despite the Tiger Head mercenaries’ betrayal, Xiao Yi Xian leads the expedition back to help them against Human-faced Mosquitoes. She collapses after being bitten, warning everyone not to touch her. An elderly physician and another helper die upon contacting her skin. Chaoge conceals her condition behind a story about a poisonous mosquito and carries her into a secluded valley 264 265.

Upon waking, she fears that her poison has killed the travelers and grieves over the plants destroyed around her. Chaoge refuses to condemn her and reassures her that he remembers her kindness. She also explains that the poison transferred to his hand came from a substance she placed on her clothes, not directly from her body’s Heavenly Poison 266.

Believing she will eventually die alone from an outbreak, she initially hopes only to save others while she can. Chaoge offers to help control her constitution and recruits her as a potential defense against another Woeful Poison Body. After several days of consideration, she agrees to accompany him. She returns to town in disguise but leaves without collecting her belongings when she sees the Pavilion embroiled in a dispute over the Young Leader’s poisoning death 267.

Jia Nan Academy and the Heavenly Poison Scripture

At the Inner Academy Selection Tournament, Xiao Yi Xian takes Kimimaro’s first-round match despite receiving a bye herself. She defeats Leo through a handshake, then incapacitates his five hostile classmates with poison. When an instructor asks her to wake them, she apologizes for forgetting and removes their poison 371 372.

Her poison gas later forces the academy elders to stop the selection battle. Rather than risk further injuries, they grant all six remaining competitors access to the Library Pavilion 393.

Following Chaoge’s instructions, she retrieves the Heavenly Poison Scripture despite Xiao Yan’s attempt to claim it. She opens a sealed scroll containing Golden Emperor Burning Heaven Flame at the last minute, catches the scripture when it emerges, and escapes. Xiao Yan’s interest leads her to suspect that he knows the other Woeful Poison Body bearer 398 401 402.

The scripture provides a means of controlling her poison, but its fusion with the golden flame makes her condition more dangerous. Contact with her severely burns Chaoge’s arm, and some of her hair turns gray-white. Xun’er’s attempted flame seal is later identified as the cause of the unintended fusion 405 406 408.

Rise of Tian Xiao

After reaching One-Star Dou Emperor, Xiao Yi Xian learns that the Poison Pill Method requires several exceptionally rare materials. Chaoge promises to find them and keeps her and Kimimaro out of the Qi Refining Tower’s heart-flame tempering session because of his suspicions about the Fallen Heart Flame 440.

When Chaoge is presumed dead beneath the tower, she refuses to accept that he will never return. She remains in the Black-Corner Region with Kimimaro and the Gold and Silver Elders, supported by Jia Nan Academy. Using the former Black Emperor Sect’s city as a base, she establishes Akatsuki/Tian Xiao and honors Chaoge as its deceased founding patriarch 489.

Her founding ceremony becomes a violent assertion of authority. She kills defiant leaders with golden flames, poisons Mo Ya badly enough to force him to amputate his arm, and fights the Soul Hall’s Protector Xuan alongside Kimimaro and Yang Chao. Over the following three years, Tian Xiao survives repeated attacks; Xiao Yi Xian endures seven or eight serious injuries as the organization becomes a feared regional power 491 492 494.

When Chaoge returns, she identifies him as Tian Xiao’s sect master and explains that she founded it in his name 505.

Jia Ma Crisis and Dou Zun Breakthrough

Xiao Yi Xian accompanies Chaoge back to the Jia Ma Empire and confronts the invading Poison Sect Master. After the latter releases her poison and detonates herself, Xiao Yi Xian attempts to absorb the cloud threatening the empire 508 509.

At first, the quantity exceeds her limit. Reassured by Chaoge’s trust, she releases her own Woeful Poison Body and forms enormous poison-gas hands around the spreading cloud. A giant phantom resembling her then appears above the city. Seven days of absorption culminate in her breakthrough to Dou Zun 510 511 512.

She remains frightened that greater strength will make a future outbreak impossible to contain. Chaoge tells her that she is family and promises to continue seeking a solution. Three days later, she joins him, Medusa, and Kimimaro on the expedition against the Cloud Empire’s Poison Sect 512.

Central Plains Pursuit

Before leaving for the Central Plains, Xiao Yi Xian estimates that she has only six months before she can no longer suppress her condition. The Heavenly Poison Scorpion Dragon Beast’s magic core remains the missing ingredient for treatment 526.

During pursuit by Old Monster Qin, she traps him in golden-flamed poison gas and escapes his spatial restraint. Qin recognizes her as a Dou Zun-level Woeful Poison Body bearer, possibly a Heavenly Poison Woman, and orders the Ice River Valley master informed. He claims that spatial energy left inside her will allow him to track her 535.

Later, Liu Qing reports rumors of a Woeful Poison Body bearer in the Central Plains being targeted by a major sect. He believes the woman may be Xiao Yi Xian, but cannot provide her location 549.
