Background / History

Hikari originates from the Warring States period. Her clansmen treated her as a humanoid weapon and subjected her unusual body to repeated eye-transplant surgeries, leaving her with several Mangekyō Sharingan abilities. Her limited stamina and chakra reserves once allowed enemy clans, including the Senju, to defeat and seal her through repeated assaults. She remained sealed for more than a century before awakening in the modern era. 2 5 10

After awakening, the fusion of her original soul with a modern soul dramatically strengthens her chakra and ocular power. The modern influence also initially makes her reluctant to kill defeated opponents; she spares the Anbu members she overwhelms in Konoha, including Morino Ibiki. 5

Her first major conflict with modern Konoha comes when Root attempts to assassinate her for her Mangekyō Sharingan. Hikari escapes surveillance, defeats the pursuing Root operatives, and ultimately kills the entire attacking force after being targeted by mind-control techniques. 16 17 18
