Background

Esdeath was born into a tribe on the Empire’s Northern Border. Displaying exceptional combat ability from childhood, she could hunt Dangerous Species alone. When Northern Foreign Tribes slaughtered her people, she became the sole survivor and embraced the belief that the strong devour the weak. 212

As a teenager, she entered the Imperial Capital’s martial arts tournament and used it to join the military. Her accumulated victories and achievements eventually elevated her to an Imperial general, second only to Great General Bude. 212

She selected the Teigu Demon God Manifestation: Demon's Extract over the Two Large Axes, drank an entire container of the Extract, and successfully suppressed its mind-eroding influence. This fusion further magnified her strength, ice manipulation, and willpower. 187 213

Esdeath is driven by an intense desire to battle strong opponents. Having spent most of her life as the strongest person in her world, she finds ordinary enemies unstimulating and will sometimes allow opponents to live so they can grow strong enough to challenge her later. 192

Her worldview was shaped by the destruction of her tribe: she initially sees survival as a contest in which the strong are entitled to rule and the weak have little claim over their own lives.
