Demon Suppression Army

History

Lin Baichuan entered the Cangwu County Branch as an Apprentice Demon Slayer after passing its initial assessment. The following assessment required apprentices to enter prison cells alone and kill demons, demonstrating the Division’s harsh selection process 1 2.

The Division’s authority was publicly asserted during the pursuit of Miaoyin, a demon posing as a courtesan. Lin Baichuan declared that anyone obstructing the Division’s official demon-hunting operation would be treated as a rebel, while Lu Changkong’s interference exposed him to imprisonment and consequences for his family 7 9.

During the Earth Demon escape into the Xuan Yang Mountain Range, the Cangwu County Branch sent skilled trackers to support Zhao Xuanyi’s Demon Suppression Army. The mission highlighted the Division’s cooperation with its military arm when escaped demons threatened widespread civilian deaths 63.

After the Underground Abyss campaign, Lin Baichuan was promoted to Three-Star Demon Slaying Commandant and named Director of the Yellow-grade Underground Abyss branch, though the appointment initially carried little practical authority or benefit 267. He subsequently established a local Division branch, appointed Tie Zhan as Deputy Director, and recruited heavily from the Demon Suppression Army with triple benefits; the new branch reached 10,000 recruits within three days 268 269.

Conflict with Lin Baichuan

Lin Baichuan’s relationship with the Division deteriorated into open confrontation in the Imperial Capital.

Yun Shan, a Supreme Elder of the Division, launched a surprise attack on Lin Baichuan’s residence, destroying the mansion and injuring his 3,000 personal guards. Lin Baichuan repelled Yun Shan and pursued him into the Division’s stronghold 763 765.

After a stronger Division powerhouse intervened to prevent Yun Shan’s death, Lin Baichuan demanded that the Division hand over the person responsible for inciting the attack. He threatened further losses if the Division protected those involved 765.

The Supreme Elders refused to surrender Si Changfeng’s faction, citing the need to preserve the Division’s authority. Lin Baichuan consequently declared his withdrawal from the Demon Suppression Division and threatened to target his enemies should they leave the Imperial Capital 766.

Despite this rupture, later records again identify Lin Baichuan as a First-Rank Demon Slayer of the Demon Suppression Division while he serves as Commander of the Barbarian Suppression Army 586 696 806.
