Background / History

Barbarian Suppression City was built in Yunzhou’s borderlands after an unparalleled War God killed a Barbarian Army Commander. The city and its army held the Barbarians beyond Great Xia’s borders for many years, despite the disappearance of the War God who founded the defense. 353

Under Marquis Beichen Ye Linshan, the army retained enough strength to keep the city from falling, but Barbarian incursions became frequent. Lin Baichuan concluded that Ye Linshan had colluded with the Barbarians, allowing threats to persist in order to consolidate his own authority. 353

After Lin Baichuan killed Ye Linshan, the army fractured. Its visible factions consisted of Jiang Ying’s suppressed loyalists, a neutral bloc, and Ye Linshan’s direct lineage—the strongest faction and the group most determined to kill Lin Baichuan. 361 435

Lin Baichuan later entered the city under an imperial order to command the army. He defeated the old regime’s forces, including 300,000 troops assembled against him, and subsequently eliminated or displaced the entrenched leadership. 426 438 451
