Arc 23The War for the World

Bright relocated Fish-Man Island’s people, completed Hades, and gathered allies for a worldwide assault on the World Government. He drew Imu into battle, but the fight escalated as Ancient Weapons appeared and Imu’s hidden weapon attacked from beneath the sea.

  • Bright moved Fish-Man Island’s refugees to New Fish-Man Island, where they built homes while his allies guarded them and restricted communications.
  • Bright and Shanks trained to overcome Observation Killer, while Vegapunk tested the Seraphim and Bright helped them develop their fighting skills.
  • Bright named Vegapunk’s completed flying warship Hades and tested its speed and firepower on the moon, where they discovered the ruins of Birka.
  • Bright returned to New Fish-Man Island, prepared his allies for war, and asked Shyarly to marry him after they defeated the World Government.
  • Bright gathered forces from across the world and used Hades to lure Imu out, defeating Douglas Bullet and persuading several assembled fighters to stand down.
  • Bright and Imu began fighting as Dragon signaled the worldwide campaign, and allied forces attacked World Government strongholds across many nations.
  • Bright challenged Imu in his awakened Dragon Human form, but Imu revealed his enhanced body and immortality as Hades and the Ancient Weapons entered the battle.
  • Bright and Imu continued fighting in the sky while Dragon sent Shirahoshi to search for Imu’s hidden weapon, which fired a colossal beam from beneath the sea.
Chapters 564–589 Vol. 6 Read

Ch. 564Preparations

Bright discussed how Fish-Man Island’s refugees would stay safe after relocating, proposing a deserted island and measures to prevent spies from exposing their location. Otohime, the army, Arlong’s intelligence group, and Vegapunk began carrying out those measures as the refugees prepared to move to their new home.

  • Bright told Neptune and Jinbe that the refugees would settle temporarily on an uninhabited island suggested by Zephyr, with logistics teams bringing supplies.
  • Bright warned that internal troublemakers and World Government spies could expose their location, and Neptune ordered the army to increase its vigilance.
  • Bright proposed that Otohime use her abilities to discourage people from plotting against their compatriots, and that Shirahoshi and Vegapunk help seal off communications.
  • Otohime agreed to speak with the refugees, while the army patrolled the cabins and Arlong’s intelligence organization searched for possible enemies.
  • Vegapunk set up a communications jammer that allowed designated Den Den Mushi to contact the outside world, and Bright prepared to take the refugees to their new home.

Ch. 565New Home

As Noah carried Fish-Man Island’s five million residents toward a deserted island, Bright visited Shyarly and the Mermaid Cafe ladies, who were eager to see the surface. He assigned Nana to protect Shirahoshi as the group approached its temporary new home.

  • Bright found Shyarly in a private room aboard Noah, where the Mermaid Cafe ladies were keeping her company.
  • Nana asked to fight in the coming war, but Bright ordered her to protect Shirahoshi instead.
  • Bright told the mermaid ladies they were heading to a deserted island as a temporary residence, exciting them with the prospect of living beneath the sky and upon the sea.
  • Bright promised Shyarly he would introduce her to the things on the sea after they reached the surface.
  • Noah reached coastal waters, and the deserted island came into view.

Ch. 566Settlement

Bright oversaw Fish-Man Island's people settling on a nearby uninhabited island after Noah could travel no farther through the shallows. The refugees celebrated seeing the real sun, while Bright and Jinbe began arranging security, shelter, and supplies for their new home.

  • Bright had his subordinates deploy Doctor Vegapunk's signal jammers, and Princess Shirahoshi ordered the Sea Kings to blockade the surrounding waters.
  • Bright watched as Fish-Man Island's residents left Noah and surfaced, many of them moved to see the real sun for the first time.
  • The fish-men and merfolk swam toward the island, while Jinbe told Bright that the army had gone ahead to keep watch.
  • Bright told Jinbe to build temporary homes on both the island and nearby seabed, and to bring supplies as quickly as possible.
  • Bright used Observation Haki to notice the humans from Fish-Man Island who had fled with the others and were now cut off from outside contact.

Ch. 567The Vanished World Government

After Fish-Man Island was destroyed, Bright and the survivors began rebuilding on a deserted island while the New Navy and Revolutionary Army considered the threat posed by Imu. They learned that the World Government and Celestial Dragons had vanished from Mary Geoise, leaving their next move unknown, and agreed to prepare for the coming battle.

  • Fish-men and merfolk built homes on the deserted island, while the humans brought from Fish-Man Island were left to fend for themselves.
  • Donald argued that Bright would win because his side possessed Pluto and other Ancient Weapons.
  • Bright thanked Mr. Zephyr for finding the island, and Dragon and Garp agreed that saving lives mattered more than preserving Fish-Man Island.
  • Vice Admiral Tsuru reported that Mary Geoise had been destroyed and that the World Government and Celestial Dragons had disappeared.
  • Bright and his allies worried that Imu could conceal the World Government in the sky, but decided to use the time to finish Pluto and prepare their full strength.

Ch. 568New Fish-Man Island

Im and the Five Elders planned to search the world for Bright while keeping their floating Final Weapon hidden. Meanwhile, Bright and Neptune established New Fish-Man Island as a temporary home and continued preparing for war.

  • Im told the Five Elders that Bright's two Plutos were a serious threat, but Uranus had not yet reached its full power.
  • Im ordered the World Government's allied nations to search the Four Seas and the Grand Line for Bright and his allies.
  • The hidden floating ship carrying Im and the Celestial Dragons disappeared from view above the sea.
  • Bright and Neptune named the deserted island New Fish-Man Island as the fish-men and merfolk began building homes above and below the water.
  • Bright continued training to break the Observation Killer while Pluto neared completion and war approached.

Ch. 569The Moment to Spread Their Wings

Bright trained with Shanks to overcome Observation Killer while New Fish-Man Island settled into a new routine. At Vegapunk’s base, the first Seraphim modeled on Kaido were completed.

  • Bright asked Shanks to attack him at full strength so he could improve at detecting Observation Killer, and Shanks agreed.
  • Bright used his Observation Haki to begin reading Shanks’s thoughts and glimpsing his future despite Observation Killer.
  • New Fish-Man Island received temporary homes and supplies, and Tesoro organized concerts as the residents regained their spirits.
  • The World Government and the allied forces disappeared from public view, leaving the world uneasy as their propaganda war continued.
  • Bright visited Vegapunk’s experimental base and saw several completed Seraphim that Shaka said had inherited Kaido’s strength.

Ch. 570The Power of the Seraphim

Bright tested eight Seraphim created from Kaido’s lineage factor and Lunarian blood, finding them extraordinarily fast, strong, and durable. As the test continued, Lilith ordered the Seraphim to reveal their Devil Fruit abilities.

  • Vegapunk unveiled eight young Kaido clones enhanced with Lunarian blood, and Bright agreed to test their power.
  • Bright and the others moved into the sky, where the Seraphim surrounded him and attacked with spiked clubs.
  • The Seraphim extinguished their flames to gain speed, and one slammed Bright through the clouds into the seabed.
  • Bright returned to the sky and judged the Seraphim’s physical strength nearly equal to Kaido’s.
  • Bright punched a Seraphim in its flame-protected defensive mode, but it quickly recovered almost unharmed.
  • Lilith insisted the Seraphim had not shown their true power and ordered them to use their Devil Fruit abilities.

Ch. 571Knights of God

After Bright fought the Seraphim, he agreed to train them alongside Rayleigh and Shanks, helping them gain combat experience and learn Haki. Meanwhile, the Five Elders summoned the Knights of God and prepared them to join the coming war against the rebels.

  • Bright returned to Vegapunk's laboratory with the Seraphim, and Shanks praised their power while Bright noted their lack of experience.
  • Lilith and Shaka asked Bright to train the Seraphim, and he agreed to spar with them to improve his Armament Haki.
  • Rayleigh and Shanks volunteered to help train the Seraphim, and Bright suggested teaching them Haki.
  • Tesoro felt ashamed of his strength after watching Bright fight the Seraphim, while Bright reminded him that talent shaped strength.
  • The second Pluto neared completion as the Five Elders met a group of white-robed Celestial Dragons aboard a floating warship.
  • The white-haired elder pledged the Knights of God to fight the rebels, and the Five Elders ordered them to prepare for battle.

Ch. 572Hades

Bright learned that the new Pluto was complete, but Vegapunk had transformed it into a flying warship capable of challenging Imu’s Uranus. Bright named the vessel Hades, and it accepted its new name.

  • Bright continued helping New Fish-Man Island’s residents while training with the rapidly improving Seraphim, who awakened Haki.
  • Franky told Bright that Pluto was complete, and Bright eagerly went with him to the shipyard.
  • Bright, Shanks, Rayleigh, Vegapunk, and Master Tom saw that Vegapunk had modified Pluto into a winged warship with jet thrusters that could fly.
  • Vegapunk explained that Hades could contend with Uranus through its speed and firepower, though it might lack agility.
  • Bright named the completed vessel Hades, and it calmly accepted the name.

Ch. 573Moon Landing

Bright and the others tested Hades, the newly built autonomous warship, and discovered its speed was extraordinary. Bright then directed Hades toward the moon to explore the ancient Bikan city and the place where their history began.

  • Bright used clouds to raise Hades from the seabed, and the group boarded its cabin to test the ship.
  • Hades took off and demonstrated its speed and maneuverability as Bright and the others watched from the control room.
  • Rayleigh praised Hades' speed, and the group prepared to test its firepower.
  • Bright stopped the test, warning that firing Hades' weapons could expose them and alert Imu.
  • Bright proposed flying to the moon, and Hades began climbing toward it with the group aboard.

Ch. 574Birka

Bright and the others reached the moon aboard Hades and witnessed the Ancient Weapon’s devastating firepower. The bombardment stopped when Bright spotted the ruins of Birka on the lunar surface.

  • Bright, Shanks, and the others admired the starry sky as Hades approached the moon.
  • Bright and the others saw that the moon was barren, and Vegapunk explained that the Bikans had left their homeland for the Blue Sea.
  • Vegapunk ordered Hades to fire, and its cannons blasted a massive crater into the moon’s surface.
  • Hades unleashed a sustained barrage across the lunar landscape, demonstrating its destructive power and endurance.
  • Bright ordered Hades to stop when he spotted the ruins of Birka ahead.

Ch. 575Will

Bright and his companions discovered the buried Bikan city on the moon, where Doctor Vegapunk began examining the robots left behind. Murals revealed that the Bikans had fled to the Blue Sea after their resource use damaged their homeland, and Bright and his companions vowed to carry on their will by making technology benefit everyone.

  • Bright used Flame Clouds to drill a passage through the moon's sand and lead the group into the underground ruins.
  • Bright sent lightning into the darkness, activating lights that revealed a vast city and its small robots.
  • Doctor Vegapunk eagerly went down to study the robots while Bright left Flame Clouds nearby to protect him.
  • Bright and his companions explored the empty city and found murals recounting the Bikans' technological rise, environmental decline, and migration to the Blue Sea.
  • Bright, Red-Hair, and Teacher Rayleigh agreed to inherit the Bikans' will by creating an era in which technology brought convenience to everyone.

Ch. 576Before the Decisive Battle

Bright and his companions left the moon after exploring the Bikan city and confirming that Hades was ready. Back on New Fish-Man Island, they began gathering their forces for war against the World Government, and Bright invited Shyarly to look at the stars.

  • Bright and the others found Doctor Vegapunk examining the intelligent robots left to guard the Bikan city, and he decided they should stay there.
  • Bright, Rayleigh, and Shanks agreed that the preparations for war were complete, and Rayleigh planned to gather Mister Gaban and the other Roger Pirates.
  • After returning to New Fish-Man Island, Bright contacted Zephyr and the others, who celebrated Hades's completion and began assembling the Revolutionary Army, the NEO Marines, and the New Marines.
  • Bright felt unexpectedly empty as the war approached, so he went to Shyarly's Mermaid Cafe and asked her to look at the stars with him.

Ch. 577Battle Begins

Bright and Shyarly watched the moon from above New Fish-Man Island as they talked about the coming war and the future. Bright found reassurance in Shyarly’s faith in him, and they agreed to marry after the war as the final battle against Imu approached.

  • Bright carried Shyarly into the sky above New Fish-Man Island on Flame Clouds and spoke with her about their past trip to the moon.
  • Bright told Shyarly that preparations were complete and nothing could stop the attack on the World Government.
  • Bright worried about the sacrifices the war would bring and whether the world would truly improve afterward.
  • Shyarly assured Bright that he would create the finest era, and his unease subsided as he took her hand.
  • Bright asked Shyarly to marry him after they won the war, and she agreed.

Ch. 578The Gathering Forces

CP0 agents freed Impel Down’s Level 6 prisoners to recruit them for the World Government’s coming war. Douglas Bullet agreed to fight Bright, while Patrick Redfield refused and Shiryu left Impel Down to join the war.

  • CP0 agents pardoned the Level 6 prisoners in exchange for their service, and Catarina Devon and Avalo Pizarro accepted.
  • CP0 tried to recruit Douglas Bullet and Patrick Redfield, telling them that most of the Navy’s upper ranks had rebelled and that Bright had defeated Sengoku and the Admirals.
  • Douglas Bullet agreed to fight Bright, eager to test himself against someone said to have surpassed Roger.
  • Patrick Redfield refused to fight for the World Government, so the CP0 agent deemed him useless.
  • At Impel Down’s port, Shiryu told the CP0 agent he would join the war rather than remain as chief warden.

Ch. 579Bait

Bright gathered the NEO Marines, Revolutionary Army, New Marines, Fish-Man Island leaders, and pirate representatives to plan their final battle against the World Government. After revealing that the Government had recruited Douglas Bullet and other powerful fighters, Bright volunteered to act as bait and lure Imu into an ambush.

  • Garp and Zephyr warmly reunited at the meeting, while Kizaru and Aokiji greeted each other after years apart.
  • Bright opened the strategy meeting by proposing they draw Imu out and attack him by surprise.
  • Bright warned the group that the World Government had recruited formidable criminals from Impel Down, including Douglas Bullet.
  • Bright explained that some Government recruits were his allies, but they could not locate Imu because CP0 handled their contacts and Imu's Final Weapon remained hidden.
  • Bright volunteered to lure Imu into an encirclement, and the others agreed to support his plan.

Ch. 580Companions Gather From All Sides

Bright proposed using Hades to lure Imu into a decisive battle while the Revolutionary Army, NEO Marines, and New Navy crushed World Government forces worldwide. His allies and their nations and tribes agreed to send troops, and Fish-Man Island mobilized its logistics forces, sea beasts, and Sea Kings to transport them.

  • Bright argued that Imu would be forced to act soon because the opposing side’s strength would keep growing as Uranus matured, and he proposed appearing with Hades as bait.
  • Dragon, Zephyr, and Garp agreed to prepare their forces to attack World Government strongholds across the world.
  • Bright contacted the Giant King, Yamato, Inuarashi, and Nekomamushi, and they agreed to send troops to support the war.
  • Fish-Man Island mobilized its logistics forces, sea beasts, and Sea Kings to transport armies and join the fighting.
  • Bright and his allies prepared for a worldwide campaign while recognizing that luring Imu out remained essential to victory.

Ch. 581Tribute

At the abandoned G-3 base, the World Government gathered Shichibukai and notorious fighters to prepare for the coming war. Bright approached aboard Hades, then leaped from the sky toward the assembled monsters.

  • CP0 guided renowned figures, including Katakuri, Mihawk, Hancock, Moria, Bullet, and Pizarro, to the abandoned G-3 base.
  • Moria questioned why the others had answered the World Government's summons, and Mihawk said he wanted to fight whoever held the title of strongest.
  • Bullet entered and declared that he would fight and defeat the man called the strongest.
  • Pizarro said the World Government needed the gathered fighters because the Navy had betrayed it, and Moria eagerly anticipated the coming war.
  • Bright used Observation Haki to survey the gathering from Hades, then leaped from the sky as Hades waited for his call.

Ch. 582An Acting Pro

Bright crashed into the abandoned Marine base and demanded that the assembled fighters stop supporting the World Government. After Mihawk and Bullet challenged him, Bright called down Hades, a gigantic steel bird, as the sea boiled beneath its arrival.

  • Bright's meteor-like entrance destroyed the Marine base, but Katakuri and Mihawk emerged unharmed, while Moria, Bullet, and the CP0 agents gathered nearby.
  • Bright asked the gathered fighters to withdraw from the World Government or join his side, explaining that he did not want Imu to gain more strength.
  • Bullet attacked Bright, but Bright stopped his punch and casually hurled him into the distance.
  • Mihawk challenged Bright, and Bright recognized that Mihawk was acting to provoke a fight.
  • Bullet returned inside a colossal robot, and Bright summoned Hades, which descended through the clouds as a gigantic steel bird and sent light toward the sea.

Ch. 584Imu's Decision

Imu and the Five Elders decided they had to confront Bright before Uranus matured, despite suspecting that Bright’s appearance was a trap. At the abandoned Marine base, Bright tried to stall while Bullet attacked him, but Bright destroyed Bullet’s giant arm and reached through the robot to grab his head.

  • A CP0 agent reported that Bright had arrived with a terrifying flying machine, and Imu suspected it was Pluto.
  • The Five Elders warned that Bright might be luring them into a trap, but Imu said their chances would worsen if they waited.
  • Imu agreed to go to Bright’s location, though he wanted to avoid rushing blindly into the bait.
  • At the abandoned Marine base, Bright let CP0 report his arrival while he tried to buy time.
  • Bullet attacked Bright in his giant robot, and Bright burst the robot’s arm before reaching inside to seize Bullet’s head.

Ch. 585Attack

Bright effortlessly defeated Bullet, then exchanged blows with Hawk Eyes, whose challenge confirmed the immense gap between them. Just as Bright asked if anyone else objected, an unseen arrival spoke up.

  • Bright tore Bullet from his fused robot armor and crushed him with internal-destruction Haki.
  • Catarina Devon was stunned by Bright’s strength, while Katakuri put away his trident and King of Evil declared his surrender.
  • Hawk Eyes challenged Bright, and Bright accepted the staged duel.
  • Hawk Eyes attacked with a powerful sword barrage, but Bright deflected every strike and stopped him with a hand on his shoulder.
  • Bright asked the gathered pirates if anyone else objected, and an unseen arrival answered that they did.

Ch. 586War Begins!

Bright and Imu met and began their final battle, while Dragon and the Revolutionary Army launched coordinated attacks around the world. The chapter left the seas and nations engulfed in a worldwide war against the World Government.

  • King of Evil and the others realized that Bright and Imu were about to fight and retreated from the battlefield.
  • Bright and Imu agreed that neither would leave until the other was defeated, then clashed with their fists.
  • Pluto reported that Imu had appeared and started fighting Bright, so Black Arm Zephyr ordered the warship to move toward them.
  • Dragon told Pluto to alert the world, and the signal to begin the war spread through the Den Den Mushi's radio waves.
  • Giants, fish-men, merfolk, dwarves, the Mink Tribe, and other peoples rose from the seas as the Revolutionary Army launched attacks across nations.

Ch. 587Fierce Battle

Bright fought Im above the ruined Marine base and awakened his power after realizing his Haki alone was not enough. Bright finally read Im’s thoughts and struck him, sending him crashing into the sea, while a massive tsunami threatened the island.

  • Revolutionary Army soldiers and Sea Kings trapped the fleeing royal family of the Kingdom of Goa after the harbor ships were destroyed.
  • The Five Elders learned that Bright’s allied forces included many races and large numbers of Sea Kings, and they placed their hopes on Im defeating Bright.
  • Bright entered his awakened Dragon Human form and challenged Im to fight seriously.
  • Bright used the Voice of All Things to hear Im’s thoughts, caught his incoming fist, and slammed his head into Im.
  • Im fell into the sea as a huge tsunami rushed toward the island, and Bright gathered flames, lightning, wind, and Haki in his mouth before exhaling.

Ch. 588Appearance

Bright unleashed a devastating breath attack that revealed Imu’s true appearance but failed to kill him. As Hades and Bright tried to trap Imu with a coordinated attack, Imu escaped the blast alongside a colossal creature rising from the sea.

  • Bright’s breath attack sent a towering wave toward the island, and Hawk Eyes swung his sword to try to break it.
  • Imu emerged alive from the sea with his black robe destroyed, revealing his modified body to Bright.
  • Imu explained that he had used Lunarian technology to enhance himself and later gained eternal life through the Op-Op Fruit’s Immortality Operation.
  • Hades fired a light cannon at Imu, who dodged into a second beam rising from the sea.
  • An iron ship and a colossal winged creature burst through the waves, and the creature roared in the sky.

Ch. 589Ambush and Counter-Ambush

Bright and Imu continued their aerial battle as Dragon’s allies searched for Imu’s hidden Final Weapon. Imu used the fight as bait, and a colossal beam erupted from beneath the sea, swallowing Pluto in light.

  • Hawk Eyes destroyed the incoming tidal wave while Katakuri watched Pluto and Uranus appear beside the ruined Marine base.
  • Bright and Imu resumed their fierce battle in the sky as the Ancient Weapons gathered around them.
  • Dragon asked Jinbe to have Princess Shirahoshi command the Sea Kings to search the deep sea for Imu’s hidden weapon.
  • Imu revealed that concealing his presence no longer fooled Bright and said he could not win the war by fighting Bright head-on.
  • Bright warned the others of an attack from beneath the sea, but a gigantic beam erupted from the seabed and obscured Pluto.
