History
Foundation and legacy
Shrek was originally established in a small village south of Suotuo City in the Balak Kingdom. Its name came from a monster called a “Shrek.” 25
The academy's prestige began with the First Generation Shrek Seven Devils, seven unprecedented Heavenly Prides who reached Hundred-Level Godhood. Shrek subsequently became the leading academy for martial-soul cultivation and has claimed nearly every All-Continent Advanced Soul Master Tournament championship across its ten-thousand-year history. 25 26
Sun Moon War
Four thousand years before the novel's present, Shrek's president rallied graduates and the Three Great Empires against the Sun Moon Empire. Nearly sixty Titled Douluo answered the call; the president became Commander of the Three Armies and led the coalition to victory. 25
After the war, Shrek publicly withdrew from direct political credit-taking and emphasized education. Its vast alumni network nevertheless remained embedded in military, government, and other professions throughout the Three Great Empires. 25
Campus and administration
Shrek Academy occupies the eastern region of Shrek City, a major commercial center with over two million residents. The academy governs the city independently and pays no taxes to any nation. 31
| Area / Institution | Function |
|---|---|
| Outer Court | Entry level for new students; contains the Martial Soul Department and Soul Tool Department. Students face at least one annual assessment and are expelled for failing. 25 |
| Inner Courtyard | Selective advanced program entered by only a small fraction of Outer Court students; its members become Shrek Inspectors by default. 26 |
| Sea God Pavilion | Shrek's governing body, selected from exceptional Inner Courtyard graduates. It is carved from a living Golden Tree with auras of light and life. 26 390 |
| Shrek Inspection Group | Inner Courtyard students must complete thirty inspection missions before graduation, primarily targeting Evil Soul Masters as well as bandits, drifters, and thieves. 26 |
| Martial Soul Department | Shrek's traditional and dominant division; more than eighty percent of its top experts over the previous four thousand years originated here. 25 26 |
| Soul Tool Department | Founded after the Sun Moon War to pursue Sun Moon Empire soul-tool technology; historically behind the Martial Soul Department and the Sun Moon Royal Soul Tool Master Academy. 25 26 |
Enrollment
- Standard applicants must be under twelve, possess at least Level 15 Soul Power, and hold a recommendation from a main-city-level authority within the Three Great Empires. 31
- The Outer Court admits roughly one thousand new students annually, but total enrollment does not exceed five thousand because of its high elimination rate. 25
- Soul engineers may enter through a Special Enrollment examination, bypassing the usual route into the Soul Tool Department. 32 34
- Tuition costs ten Gold Soul Coins per academic year, excluding meals; students who fail assessments receive no refund. 33
Facilities
- Shrek City — A walled city with major roads in all directions. Its south, west, and north gates are open to the public, while the eastern side is reserved for the academy. 31
- Sea God Lake and Shrek Square — Major campus landmarks connecting the academy's teaching districts. 32 90
- Founder statues — Ten granite statues, each ten meters tall, commemorate the academy's founders and the Shrek Seven Devils. 32
- Beast Fighting Zone — Shrek's largest exclusive area and building, larger than the Martial Soul Department's teaching buildings, dormitories, and Shrek Square combined; it raises Soul Beasts for student combat testing. 240
- Dormitories — Outer Court students originally lived in cramped two-person rooms, with male and female students housed on different floors of the same building. 34 92
- Reformed dormitories — Later facilities retained double rooms but added private bathrooms, advanced Soul Guidance furnishings, and online classes for ill students. 1160
Authority and reputation
Shrek's political influence rivals that of an empire. Its graduates' presence throughout the Three Great Empires gives it influence in nearly every profession, while its independent Inspection Group can operate against Evil Soul Masters across most of the continent. 25 26
This authority makes the Three Great Empires reliant on Shrek while also wary of it. Their rulers fear the possibility of a Shrek dean once again assuming command of their armies in wartime. 25 313
Shrek's fearsome reputation also deters attacks on its students. Mercenaries and minor sects regard harming a Shrek member as an offense likely to bring overwhelming retaliation. 196 404 631
Reforms and development
Huo Yuhao advanced a long-term integration of the Martial Soul and Soul Tool Departments. His Battle Armor Backpack concept was shared with the academy as a foundation for future Full Body Soul Guidance Battle Armor research. 595
Later reforms included:
- Adding cafeteria stools, separate Inner Courtyard kitchens, and Soul Guidance Rotorcraft meal delivery. 776
- Building new Outer Court dormitories to end the previous mixed-gender dormitory arrangement. 776
- Establishing a Work-Study program for commoner Soul Masters. 776
- Tying Soul Tool use to final examinations, pushing students across the academy to train in Soul Tool-assisted combat. 1088
- Training a new Outer Court generation in Battle Soul combat incorporating Soul Tools from enrollment onward. 1116
These changes enabled Shrek's Inner Courtyard students to combine high-level martial souls, Soul Spirits, and Soul Tools in battle, with their overall combat strength approaching that of Soul Douluo. 1068
