Background

Dan Heng's past incarnation was Dan Feng, the Imbibitor Lunae of the Luofu and master of the Azure Dragon's Legacy. Dan Feng guarded the immortal Jianmu, commanded clouds and rain, and was one of the Five Companions of the Cloud. 79 84

Following Bai Heng's death, Dan Feng attempted to use the Dragon Transformation Secret Art and a piece of the Abundance Emanator Shuhu's flesh to resurrect her as a new Vidyadhara. Ying Xing aided the attempt after Dan Feng promised to bear the blame if it failed. The ritual instead created a white-maned Wicked Dragon that devastated the Scales Embrace Realm; Jingliu ultimately slew it. 111 112

Dan Feng was condemned for the Ten Evils and sentenced to Scale-Shedding Reincarnation, exile beyond the Luofu, and permanent banishment. The succession was incomplete: Dan Heng inherited Dragon Lord power but awoke in a lightless prison without Dan Feng's memories. 79 86 111

After becoming a Nameless aboard the Star Rail Express, Dan Heng built a life distinct from Dan Feng's. His bond with the Train Crew later helps him reject the Inner Demon Dan Feng's demand that he remain chained to his inherited guilt. 87

Appearance

Dan Heng's ordinary appearance is not described in detail, but his transformation into Imbibitor Lunae radically changes his presence into that of an Azure Dragon Lord. 67

  • Cyan dragon horns grow from his forehead. 67
  • His pupils become cyan and carry the majesty of the Dragon Lord. 67
  • His hair changes and drifts around him in the air. 67
  • He can stand atop a Blue Lotus while surrounded by water and dragon imagery. 67
  • In depictions of his imprisonment, he is shown injured, disheveled, and bound in chains. 79

Personality

Dan Heng is reserved, stoic, and intensely protective of the identity he has forged for himself. He repeatedly insists that he is not Dan Feng and refuses to let others reduce him to his past incarnation's sins. 68

His rejection of Dan Feng does not mean he ignores the consequences of that past. He accepts responsibility for what he can do in the present, helps the Luofu during the Jianmu crisis, and refuses to allow Tao Ran to use reincarnation as a loophole to escape justice. 68 79 306

He is cautious with unfamiliar people and situations. On Onfaros, he notices the suspicious pattern behind a local's convenient offer to handle the Train Crew's camera, but avoids escalating the situation without proof. 382

Despite his reserved manner, he is deeply loyal to his companions. He stays behind to confront the Fire Thief Walker rather than abandon Bai E and Xing, describing protection of fading hope as a Nameless's duty. 447
