Background / History

Wang Yan serves as Class 1's homeroom teacher at Shrek Academy. He oversees class affairs such as the class-monitor election and prepares students for the academy's advancement assessment before the annual break. 8 9

After Ling Mo returns late from the Far North, Wang Yan and Zhou Yi question his explanation but cannot disprove it; Ling Mo is nevertheless punished. 10 Wang Yan later leads Class 1's core disciples to the Beast Fighting Arena for their advancement assessment. 12

He accompanies the second-year core disciples to the Shrek Seven Devils selection match. 15 When most of Shrek's main tournament team is killed or severely injured en route to the All Continent Advanced Soul Master Academy Soul Dueling Tournament, Wang Yan informs Ling Mo that the reserve team must compete until reinforcements arrive. He reassures the young team that Shrek's students remain exceptional by continental standards. 17

Wang Yan is conscientious and protective toward his students. When the reserve team is forced into the continental tournament, he tries to bolster their confidence rather than conceal the danger they face. 17

He is pragmatic in battle planning. He requests sensitive information about his students' Soul Skills because incomplete knowledge could compromise the team's tactics, while still recognizing the secrecy normally surrounding a Twin Martial Soul master's second Martial Soul. 18

His approach to Soul Tools is adaptable rather than dogmatic: he explains their battlefield value after Ling Mo challenges Xu Sanshi's belief that Soul Master combat should remain “pure.” 19
