Background / History

Shrek Academy was founded ten thousand years ago. Its name means “monster” in an ancient language, reflecting its original motto: “Only nurture monsters, never ordinary people.” Its commonly taught history credits Yu Xiaogang, first dean Flender, and the first Shrek Seven Devils—including Tang San—with establishing its reputation. The academy teaches that all seven first-generation Devils reached Rank 99 and a higher realm afterward 17.

Originally established in a small village, the academy expanded into an enormous institution that effectively constitutes the city of Shrek City 11 17.

Campus and Shrek City

Shrek Academy is built on the Lima Plain in Shrek City’s eastern district, facing the Star Dou Great Forest. Shrek City is among the largest cities on Douluo Continent, with approximately two million residents, major roads extending in all directions, and a major commercial position at the junction of the three original great empires 11.

Admissions and Student Advancement

Applicants ordinarily need a City Lord’s Letter of Recommendation, must be no older than twelve, and must possess at least Soul Power Level 15. The final practical combat assessment is considered the most important requirement 7.

Students who fail the Soul Power requirement may receive exceptional admission through a Special Assessment. The candidate must withstand a teacher limited to three Soul Rings for the duration of one incense stick without being defeated or knocked off the stage 12 27.

First-year students must pass the New Student Competition assessment to become official first-year students and remain at the academy 59.

Departments

• Martial Soul Department — Led publicly by Dean Yan Shaozhe. It trains Soul Masters and sought to recruit Huo Yuhao after recognizing his Ultimate Martial Souls 129 133.
• Soul Tool Department — Led by Xian Lin’er, with Fan Yu and Vice Dean Qian Duoduo among its prominent personnel. It trains Soul Engineers and develops Soul Tools 31 71 249.
• Inner Court — The academy’s advanced student body. Inner Court students are also members of the Shrek Supervision Group and must complete supervision missions to graduate 210.
• Outer Court — The regular student body. Students may leave after Outer Court graduation rather than enter the Inner Court, but must swear confidentiality regarding Inner Court matters 209 210.

Leadership

• Mu En / Mu Lao — Head of Shrek Academy and a leading Seagod Pavilion authority. He opposed prying into students’ private opportunities, demanded accountability for attacks on students, and rebuked Xuan Zi’s defense of Dai Huabin 128 193 197.
• Yan Shaozhe — Dean of the Martial Soul Department and the academy’s public head. He apologized publicly to Huo Yuhao for the department’s inadequate assessment and later supported the academy’s competition team 129 269.
• Xian Lin’er — Dean associated with the Soul Tool Department and Huo Yuhao’s master. She recognized his Soul Tool talent, equipped the academy team for competition, and received his List Ranking Carving Knife after their championship 71 74 249 273.
• Qian Duoduo — Vice Dean involved with the Soul Tool Department and its research work 58 74.
• Xuan Zi / Xuan Lao — Inner Court Dean and leader of the Shrek Supervision Group. He later became Seagod Pavilion Master and ordered the abolition of Soul Tools 210 298.

Shrek Supervision Group

The Shrek Supervision Group is the Inner Court’s operational body. It claims to investigate serious incidents across Douluo Continent when local nations cannot or will not act, dispatching Inner Court students as “Shrek Supervisors” 210.

Requirements and equipment

• Every Inner Court disciple is a Supervisor and must complete thirty supervision missions to graduate; otherwise, they remain in the Inner Court indefinitely 210.
• Missions offer no compensation and may involve extreme danger, including encounters with Titled Douluo 210.
• Supervisors receive blood-bound Supervisor’s Rings, which verify a wearer’s identity and function as Storage Soul Tools containing exclusive equipment 216.
• The academy reports that over a thousand Inner Court students have graduated, while fewer than one hundred Inner Court disciples currently remain at the academy 210.

Criticism and consequences

Huo Yuhao rejected the group, objecting to its mandatory missions, lack of payment, lack of mission choice, and claimed authority to intervene in other nations’ affairs 210 212. He persuaded Xiao Xiao, Wang Dong’er, Xu Sanshi, and Jiang Nannan to refuse as well; Bei Bei and He Caitou chose to join 211 212.

A Supervision Group mission later ended in severe injuries and the death of student Yao Haoxuan after the team encountered the Death God’s Messenger. Xuan Zi was absent during the crisis, having remained behind asleep, prompting an emergency Seagod Pavilion meeting and widespread condemnation 224 225 228 242.

Soul Tool Policy Crisis

Under Xuan Zi’s leadership as Seagod Pavilion Master, Shrek Academy announced that it would abolish Soul Tools and focus exclusively on cultivating Soul Masters. The order prohibited Soul Tool use and threatened expulsion for students who used them 298.

Xuan Zi subsequently cleared the Soul Tool Zone of its equipment and knowledge, leaving teachers and students in disarray. By the time he returned later, students had continued using Soul Tools during his absence and avoided him when he searched the academy 298 303.

Major Events

• Huo Yuhao’s exceptional admission — Huo Yuhao entered despite failing the Level 15 requirement by passing the Special Assessment against Teacher Liu 12 15.
• Recognition of Soul Tool talent — Fan Yu and Xian Lin’er took interest in Huo Yuhao after his Mental Detection and self-made Mechanical Wings demonstrated exceptional Soul Tool potential 31 71 74.
• Martial Soul Department apology — Yan Shaozhe publicly apologized to Huo Yuhao for the department’s earlier assessment and attempted to recruit him 129.
• Assassination investigation — Following an attack on Huo Yuhao, Xiao Xiao, and Wang Dong’er in Shrek City, Mu En ordered a full investigation, compensation for the victims, and severe punishment for those responsible 193.
• Soul Master Competition championship — Shrek Academy’s team reached the finals and won the competition, aided heavily by Huo Yuhao’s combat strength, Soul Tools, and tactics 264 269 273.
• Lifelong Shrek Seven Devils — Mu En granted Huo Yuhao and his team the title of Lifelong Shrek Seven Devils after their championship 275.
• Leadership crisis — Following Mu En and Xian Lin’er’s deaths in battle, Xuan Zi assumed control and immediately initiated the Soul Tool abolition policy 296 298.
