Background

Xuan Zi initially evaluates Huo Yuhao during the new-student tournament. Despite Huo Yuhao's decisive spiritual attack, he dismisses him as mediocre because of his low Soul Power, believing Soul Tools only conceal the boy's lack of long-term potential. He later refuses Wang Yan's request for further testing and concludes that Huo Yuhao has no future. 77 99

After Huo Yuhao reveals the Fire Dragon and Ice Dragon Martial Souls, Xuan Zi reverses his position. At a Seagod Pavilion meeting, he argues that Huo Yuhao's Ultimate Martial Souls must belong to the Martial Soul Department and helps secure a majority vote against the Soul Tool Department, despite Huo Yuhao's stated wish to remain there. 133

Xuan Zi and Yan Shaozhe then attempt to use Dai Huabin as a rival who can force Huo Yuhao back into the Martial Soul Department. Xuan Zi bars Soul Tools from the Advancement Assessment, then accepts Dai Huabin as his disciple after Dai loses his wager with Huo Yuhao. 141 142 148
