Background / History

Kushina was married to Minato Namikaze and was the mother of Ryunosuke (Zhang Miao) and Naruto. Mikoto Uchiha was her close friend; Kushina had hoped their children would become friends too 1 37.

During Kushina’s childbirth, Obito Uchiha extracted the Nine-Tails from her and used it to attack Konohagakure. Mortally wounded, Kushina and Minato shielded their children from the beast. She gave Ryunosuke and Naruto advice for growing up, then entrusted them to Hiruzen Sarutobi before dying 1.

Zhang Miao preserved her body and later used One’s Own Life Reincarnation to bring her back. Kushina recognized him immediately: a portion of her chakra sealed within him had allowed her to watch him grow up. She subsequently returned to Konoha to care for Naruto. Minato was later resurrected, reuniting the family 6 280 286 340.

Appearance

Kushina’s red hair is a distinctive Uzumaki trait. When Zhang Miao recruited a System-created version of her, that version appeared dressed as a Leaf Village ninja 37 225.

Personality

Kushina is affectionate and outspoken with her family. Her last words focus on her children’s meals, sleep, health and friendships; after her resurrection, she resumes lecturing Zhang Miao about his behaviour 1 280. She also welcomes Sasuke into her home after the Uchiha massacre and comforts both him and Naruto when Zhang Miao leaves Konoha 391 394.

She urges Zhang Miao to forgive Obito, arguing that Madara manipulated him, but Zhang Miao refuses 387.

Adamantine Sealing Chains

Kushina can extend chakra chains from her body to restrain targets. Even after childbirth and the Nine-Tails’ extraction, she restrained the fully formed beast 225 230.

• The chains can serve as offensive weapons and are particularly effective at suppressing tailed beasts 225.
• She also used them to form a barrier that Hiruzen Sarutobi could not enter 230.

Sealing techniques

Kushina taught Minato the Four Symbols Seal, which he developed into the Eight Trigrams Seal 225.
