History

Ryoma arrives in Yuren City seeking Uchiha Ci. When Ci comes under attack from Karatachi Yagura, Ryoma shields him with an Insect Wall, reveals that Ci is Orochimaru’s disciple and a Root member, and confronts Yagura with Root reinforcements 98 102. Yagura overpowers him, but Ryoma still offers to cover Ci’s escape with Insect Swamp 110.

After the confrontation, Ryoma gives Ci the Root codename Asura and becomes his superior for operations in the Land of Rain 113 114. He urges the exhausted Ci to rest, explains that Root ninja have lives and feelings despite the organization’s creed, and says he hopes their power can serve the right path 114. He later assigns Ci to hold off 300 Sunagakure ninja while he attacks a smaller supply convoy 121.

The convoy operation proves to be part of a trap involving Sunagakure strategist Ebizo. Ryoma is pinned inside an Insect Tornado surrounded by poison mist until Ci and a Konoha assault squad come to his aid 146 147 148. Ryoma then tells Ci that the operation’s true objective is to kill Ebizo and signals for reinforcements 148.

Following Ebizo’s death, Ryoma explains that the achievement will be credited publicly to “Asura,” keeping Ci’s identity separate from his Root work 166. Later, he brings Ci to the Anbu headquarters and introduces Yamato as Ci’s subordinate and a safeguard against his Tailed Beast power 201.

Personality

Ryoma presents himself as reserved and stern, particularly when issuing orders or facing enemies. With Ci, he also shows a teasing side: he turns a hot-spring visit into a lesson about rest, jokes about Root attire, and briefly pretends to study strategy while playing with a rhinoceros beetle 114 121 201.

He is protective of Ci without treating him as merely a mission asset. He risks himself against Yagura, asks Orochimaru not to let Ci die, and worries when Ci reacts badly to new intelligence 110 112 117.
