Origin and Nature

The Sharingan is an Uchiha dōjutsu bloodline limit. In its original form, its natural limit was the Three-Tomoe Sharingan, which possessed three core faculties: the Copy Eye, Hypnotic Eye, and Dynamic Eye 535.

The Sharingan and Ketsuryūgan are closely comparable dōjutsu bloodlines. Both require intense emotional stimulation to awaken, though the awakened Ketsuryūgan begins with several abilities that place it roughly on the level of a Two-Tomoe Sharingan 7.

According to Uchiha Naga, the Mangekyō was not part of the original Sharingan. Indra modified and inscribed additional techniques into the Uchiha bloodline to surpass the Sage of Six Paths’ inherited eye power, creating the foundation for later Mangekyō Sharingan users 535.

Modifying a bloodline limit is extremely dangerous. Such alterations carry an all-pervasive “Bloodline Poison,” with failure capable of killing the user outright 535.

Appearance

The Sharingan normally manifests as crimson eyes containing black tomoe. Its appearance changes substantially according to its user’s evolution and dōjutsu.

• Two-Tomoe form — two black tomoe rotate within scarlet irises.
• Snake-Eye form — vertical crimson pupils with black tomoe, produced through Natural Energy mutation 150.
• Cross Sharingan — three tomoe surround a star-like black cross pupil after the Sharingan begins fusing with the Ketsuryūgan 271.

Copy Eye and Dynamic Vision

The Sharingan observes fine physical and chakra-based details, allowing its user to imitate techniques and anticipate movements.

• Uchiha swordsmanship was developed by copying sword styles, taijutsu, and nintaijutsu from schools throughout the ninja world; this gives practitioners predictive combat perception resembling future sight 230 261.

Hypnotic Eye and Genjutsu

The Sharingan can directly hypnotize targets, create visual illusions, and counter opposing genjutsu.

• Illusion: Bubble can attach a Sharingan illusion to external objects, reflections, fingers, crows, clones, or even the environment; Uchiha Shinichi uses a reflected Sharingan to establish visual contact with Ci 128.

Mangekyō techniques vary by eye and can produce effects far beyond the base Sharingan.

• Amenotachikara can reverse disadvantageous events within a limited window; in Ci’s case, it restores eyes that were gouged out by returning them to their condition from thirty minutes earlier 267 271.
• When used alongside forbidden techniques, Amenotachikara can create an effect termed Infinite Izanagi; its documented costs include Mangekyō blindness from overuse and being Forgotten 268.
• Spiritual Might is Ci’s Mangekyō power. It becomes a Kekkei Tōta-level technique when empowered by vast Natural Energy 379.
