The capital of the Lanka Kingdom was called Lanka City, with its port located at the southernmost end of the city.
Riding in a carriage through the kingdom's streets offered a panoramic view of Lanka City's scenery.
Most kingdoms in this world were scattered across various islands. The Four Blues had the most kingdoms, most of them centered on animal husbandry or agriculture, with local specialties and trade as secondary industries.
These countries were often technologically backward, with extremely low levels of modernization.
The carriage rolled over bluestone roads freshly coated with tung oil as Ross pulled aside the curtain and looked out.
By Ross's standards, Lanka City resembled the medieval era.
Low brick-and-stone houses lined both sides of the street. The mud walls had all been freshly whitewashed, and water stains still seeped from the spots where moss had been scraped away at the corners.
One look was enough for Ross to guess that this had likely been hastily prepared over the past few days to receive him.
The streets within the city were impeccably clean. Their carriage was the only one passing through, while quite a few commoners stood along the roadside to welcome them, presenting a prosperous and beautiful urban scene.
"Turn left at the intersection ahead," Ross suddenly said.
"This... Your Highness, I have already prepared a palace for you to rest in. There are performances inside arranged by slaves for you."
Humphrey hesitated. It was not that he feared Ross seeing anything unsightly.
After all, he knew perfectly well what Celestial Dragons were like.
The main issue was that the Lanka Kingdom had been unstable recently. Pirates were running rampant, and they needed money to train a capable army. They had just announced a tax increase, and there was already considerable resentment within the kingdom.
