"Actually, it's very simple. It's nowhere near as complicated as you think."
Seemingly moved by Yasopp's oath, Kuro relaxed, deliberately putting on an expression of greedy resignation.
"Kaya and that live-in son-in-law, Usopp, belong to a family wealthier than almost anyone for miles around. My scheme was simple: find an opportunity to stage an accident and have them both die unnatural deaths."
"Then I could alter their wills without raising suspicion and take over their vast fortune. After that, I could live peacefully in this remote place, spending money like water."
At this point, Kuro deliberately paused.
He frowned slightly, his eyes flickering, and seemingly unconsciously stole a sidelong glance at Yasopp. His voice grew hesitant.
"However, while carrying out this perfect plan, I ran into a tiny snag that even I found rather troublesome. It made me seriously reconsider whether I should proceed."
Kuro understood the art of communicating with blindly confident, even arrogant fools like Yasopp.
Some things absolutely could not be spelled out too plainly.
Being evasive and revealing only half the story would instead encourage the other man's self-important assumptions, making him believe every word.
"Hahahaha! I get it! I understand everything!"
Sure enough, everything went just as Kuro expected.
After hearing that deliberately incomplete explanation, Yasopp immediately burst out laughing.
He slapped his thigh smugly, as though he had seen through everything.
"While you were hiding here as their butler, you happened to uncover a shocking secret. That live-in son-in-law named Usopp is actually my biological son!"
Yasopp held his head high, his smug expression almost beyond words.
"So once you discovered that connection, you were scared out of your wits. That's why you kept hesitating to kill them and steal their fortune, right?"
