Background & History

Nayuta was born when Matou Sakura destroyed the Underworld, remade it as a new Hell, and gave birth to her from her own destroyed body. She became Hell's will and Sakura's second child, appearing in the body and mentality of a young child despite her status as a world-like existence. From birth, she adored Sakura and called her “Mom.” 51

Initially, Nayuta remained in Hell because maintaining its stability was her responsibility. Sakura eventually took her into the human world, where Nayuta was fascinated by yokai ears and tails, especially fox traits. During their visit to Kyoto, she intimidated Yasakana and sought to make Yasakana's daughter Kokono her little sister; however, she chose to leave rather than separate Kokono from her mother. 59 60 61

Nayuta later claimed Ophis for herself, kissing and marking the dragon after Sakura allowed it. She also used a devil's heart to transform the sleeping Ingvild into a devil. After realizing that her past actions had upset Sakura, Nayuta froze in guilt until Sakura reassured and embraced her. 65 67

As Hell expanded alongside the Kabbalah Tree of Life, Nayuta's duties grew beyond what she could manage alone. Kiryu Aika and Koishi Komeiji became key assistants in administering the realm. When Sakura disappeared and the worlds entered dormancy, Nayuta awoke to investigate a disturbance tied to a mark she had left behind, but ultimately prioritized Sakura's plan over her own wishes. 203 233

After Belfast gave her a final chance to resolve the disturbances affecting the universe's intended balance, Nayuta departed Hell and left the universe to study on the Mu Continent at Sakura's request. 254

Nayuta has the small, childlike body of a recently born girl, short black hair, a delicate usually expressionless face, and ringed eyes resembling Makima's. 51

Despite her innocence and dependence on Sakura, Nayuta can be possessive, cold, and dangerous. She refuses to tolerate others coveting Sakura, considers turning people she likes into devils, and is capable of violent, pragmatic decisions.
