| True resurrection | Ch. 173 | Regained a living Six Paths-level body, though his Rinnegan shattered and left him without eyes. |
| Six Paths Chakra Mode | Ch. 174 | Manifested nine Truth-Seeking Balls and overwhelmed Hashirama, Tobirama, and Minato; his living body could withstand their attacks and forcibly disperse Impure World Reincarnation. |
Background
In the Ancient Era, Shirou targeted Ninshu practitioners who abused chakra for wealth, warfare, and oppression. He infiltrated the residence of a Daimyo who exploited a Ninshu master, killed the ruler and his ministers, and continued searching for information on Ninshu. 10 238
After obtaining God Tree remnants, Natural Energy, Wood Release, and a Slug companion, Shirou nearly assassinated Indra while Indra still possessed a Three-Tomoe Sharingan. His encounter with Black Zetsu led him to pursue the destruction of the Sage of Six Paths' Ninja Sect, believing that ending the spread of chakra would prevent its misuse. 10 11
Ashura persuaded Shirou to abandon that course and entrust the future to Ninshu instead. Shirou revived those killed in his campaign with Rinne Rebirth as atonement, then devoted himself to a creed of bearing suffering in order to save others. 10
He ultimately arranged his own death and left two Crystal Coffins containing halves of his corpse. Publicly, the coffins served medical research; secretly, they ensured that someone could eventually revive him. 80 227
Appearance
Shirou generally appears as a young man with a calm, compassionate face that helped establish his legendary reputation as a benevolent Medical Ninja. His Impure World Reincarnation body gave his eyes a deathly stillness, while his true resurrection left him with empty eye sockets after his Rinnegan shattered. 1 83 173
- Often wears a hood or a conical hat when concealing his identity. 98 238
- Uses a black cloth over his face while traveling with Yakushi Kabuto. 192
- Was frequently seen writing medical records, research notes, or scrolls. 59 87 95
- Uses a wheelchair during Akatsuki operations after losing his eyes. 191 207
- Can manifest a thousand-meter-tall Susanoo with wings spanning the battlefield. 237
Personality
Shirou presents himself as restrained, patient, and deeply committed to relieving suffering. He treats patients regardless of identity, offers medical guidance freely, and remains protective of people he recognizes as companions. His disgust for the shinobi world stems from its casual sacrifice of human lives through forbidden techniques and war. 1 25 48 176
His compassion coexists with a highly calculating nature. Shirou planned his death and revivals across a millennium, manipulated Black Zetsu into exposing its secrets, and used allies and enemies alike as pieces in his larger plans. He is notably poor at direct deception, but compensates by speaking selectively, exploiting others' expectations, and making Black Zetsu believe it is directing him. 14 97 227
Shirou believes power carries responsibility. He once sought to erase chakra from the world, later placed faith in Ashura's peaceful path, and eventually accepted harsher methods after witnessing repeated wars. Even after becoming Akatsuki's leader, he retains a desire to preserve life and a belief that the shinobi world can still be changed. 10 87 172 176
