Background

Konoha believed Obito died during a battle against the Hidden Stone Village. Before his apparent death, he entrusted a Sharingan to his teammate, Kakashi Hatake. He was later rescued by Madara Uchiha after being grievously wounded as a twelve-year-old Konoha ninja. 95 102

Madara selected Obito as his successor, instructing him to impersonate “Madara Uchiha” and steer Nagato toward gathering the Tailed Beasts for the Eye of the Moon Plan. Obito used Madara’s and Shirou Emiya’s names to win Nagato and Konan’s trust. 85

Obito’s disillusionment with Konoha is rooted in witnessing Rin Nohara die by Kakashi’s Lightning Release. He concluded that his former life had lost meaning and abandoned his loyalty to the village. 107

He later attacked Konoha during Kushina Uzumaki’s childbirth, extracted the Nine-Tails, and controlled it with his Mangekyo Sharingan, causing the Nine-Tails Riot. He also assisted Itachi Uchiha in the Uchiha Clan Massacre. 109

Appearance

Obito conceals himself behind masks for much of his activity as the Mysterious Masked Man. When unmasked, one half of his face is heavily scarred. 95 106

  • One eye bears a Mangekyo Sharingan; he initially used a transplanted ordinary Sharingan in the other socket. 95
  • After obtaining the Rinnegan, he possesses mismatched Mangekyo Sharingan and Rinnegan eyes. 208 210
  • As the Ten-Tails Jinchuriki, his hair turns white; horns, black tomoe markings, a white haori-like covering, and Truth-Seeking Orbs manifest. 210

Personality

Obito is intensely proud, dismissive of rivals, and unwilling to surrender control of the Eye of the Moon Plan to either Madara or Shirou Emiya. He distrusts both men and believes only the Infinite Tsukuyomi world he creates himself can be trusted. 95 115

His ambition is inseparable from grief and resentment. He holds Kakashi responsible for Rin’s death, rejects Konoha’s shinobi values, and shows no remorse for the casualties of the Nine-Tails Riot. 107 110

Although resourceful enough to prepare contingencies and build alliances, Obito repeatedly undermines larger plans through infighting and his need to personally control events. Madara ultimately regrets choosing him as successor. 189 209

Abilities & Skills

Mangekyo Sharingan — Kamui

Obito’s Mangekyo technique transports matter between the physical world and a unique Kamui Dimension.

  • Can render his body intangible by transferring it into the Kamui Dimension for up to five minutes. 106
  • Can draw objects and opponents into that dimension. 106
  • Shares a dimensional connection with Kakashi’s Mangekyo Sharingan, making Kakashi’s eye a direct countermeasure. 106 196
  • Uses Kamui to store personnel, equipment, and an operational hideout beyond Akatsuki’s surveillance. 196
  • Loses the ability to use Kamui intangibility after becoming the Ten-Tails Jinchuriki because his empowered body cannot be instantly transported through space. 211

Sharingan Genjutsu and Fire Release

Obito uses Sharingan genjutsu for infiltration and combat, leaving identifiable traces on victims manipulated during his operations in Konoha. 150

  • Casts Fire Release: Blast Wave Wild Dance, producing spiraling fire and wind powerful enough to drive back Kakashi and Might Guy. 105
  • Controlled the Nine-Tails with Mangekyo Sharingan power during the Nine-Tails Riot. 109
  • Used genjutsu during Orochimaru’s infiltration of the Chunin Exams. 150

Wood Release

Obito possesses a Wood Release Bloodline Limit, though Itachi assesses it as roughly comparable to Tenzō’s rather than exceptional. 104 106

Rinnegan and the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path

After transplanting a Rinnegan, Obito gains the means to summon and control the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path. 181

  • Uses the statue’s chains to extract Shukaku from Gaara. 201
  • Seizes the statue from Akatsuki, disrupting Madara and Shirou’s plans. 189
  • Uses the statue to absorb eight Tailed Beasts in preparation for reviving the Ten-Tails. 202

Ten-Tails Jinchuriki Powers

As the Ten-Tails’ host, Obito reaches Six Paths-level power but cannot fully control it. 210

  • Generates and reshapes Truth-Seeking Orbs, including the Sword of Nunoboko and other weapons. 210 211
  • Possesses extreme regeneration; even severed limbs and a split body rapidly restore themselves. 211
  • Creates the Six Red Yang Formation and launches Ten-Tails Tailed Beast Balls through the God Tree. 211
  • His strongest combined assault produces continent-shaking shockwaves, though Shirou Emiya defeats it. 212
  • His lack of Six Paths battle experience leaves him unable to effectively challenge Shirou despite his immense chakra. 211 212

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Uchiha war fan — retrieved through Kamui and wielded when challenging Shirou Emiya. 96
  • Masks — used to sustain his “Madara Uchiha” persona and conceal his identity from Kakashi. 93 102
  • Black rods — used while empowered as the Ten-Tails Jinchuriki to establish the Six Red Yang Formation. 211

Relationships

  • Madara Uchiha — rescuer, mentor, and original benefactor; Obito succeeds him in the Eye of the Moon Plan, then betrays him. Madara planted a Curse Mark in Obito’s heart and later intends to use him for Rinne Rebirth. 85 188 189
  • Kakashi Hatake — former teammate and recipient of Obito’s Sharingan. Obito blames him for Rin’s death, yet eventually cooperates with him and entrusts their combined Kamui power to their final efforts. 95 107 223
  • Rin Nohara — deceased teammate whose death drives Obito’s rejection of Konoha and fixation on an Infinite Tsukuyomi world where she lives again. 107 202
  • Shirou Emiya — rival for control of Akatsuki and the Eye of the Moon Plan. Shirou defeats him repeatedly, pierces his heart through Kamui, and later extracts the Ten-Tails from him. 96 209 212
  • Itachi Uchiha — accomplice in the Uchiha Clan Massacre and fellow Akatsuki operative. Their relationship becomes openly hostile after Itachi questions Obito’s role in the Nine-Tails Riot. 105 109 110
  • Orochimaru — co-conspirator against Shirou and Madara. Orochimaru assists Obito’s Ten-Tails preparations while secretly coveting Obito’s body as a potential vessel. 115 206 207
  • Kisame Hoshigaki — subordinate recruited while Obito impersonated Madara; Kisame’s loyalty becomes uncertain after Obito’s true identity spreads through the Shinobi World. 116 117
  • Sasuke Uchiha — fellow Uchiha whom Obito recruits and manipulates by revealing the truth behind the Uchiha Clan Massacre. 152 203

Final Cooperation with Kakashi
