Background / History

Dugu Lu was born into the Dugu Family, whose Jade Phosphorous Serpent lineage suffers from a hereditary venom backlash. Because cultivating the martial soul offers no return once begun, the family restricts cultivation to selected children; Dugu Lu was chosen because he awakened Innate Full Soul Power and the Jade Phosphorous Serpent Emperor. He was subsequently sent to Shrek Academy. 21 305

During an early soul hunt with Xu Jie, he revealed his first soul skill, Snake Bite, and helped detoxify Xu Jie after the latter was poisoned. His confidence as the family’s greatest genius was shaken after he watched Xu Jie absorb a Thousand-Year Soul Ring, though he later regained faith in his own potential. 18 20 21

At Shrek, Dugu Lu became close to Xu Jie, Huo Yuhao, and Xiao Xiao. When Huo Yuhao disappeared during the attack on Mingde Hall, Dugu Lu skipped class with Xiao Xiao to seek information, demonstrating his concern for his friend. 121

Xu Jie selected Dugu Lu as the first test subject for the Soul Contract System. After nurturing the Jade Phosphor Nine Absolute Flower with his own venom, Dugu Lu successfully formed a contract with it. The successful contract changed the Dugu Family's future. Xu Jie modified the family’s Poison Scripture into a dual-cultivation method that allowed other Jade Phosphorous Serpent soul masters to transfer their venom to Dugu Lu. While retrieving a golden spinal bone with Qian Ran, Dugu Lu was briefly possessed by a purple-black scythe spirit. The incident left a temporary mark between his brows, altered his behavior toward Qian Ran, and eventually led Xu Jie to suspect a remnant consciousness connected to Bibi Dong and the Rakshasa God. 378 386

After initially hesitating, Dugu Lu accepted the Rakshasa God's First-Rank God Position inheritance to fulfill his promise to help Xu Jie and Huo Yuhao. His first examination required him to protect Qian Ran, the Angel God's inheritor, and awaken a Godhood Seed. 520

Dugu Lu initially takes considerable pride in being the Dugu Family’s once-in-ten-thousand-years genius. His confidence is repeatedly challenged by Xu Jie, Huo Yuhao, and Ji Juechen, and he openly recognizes the gap between himself and them after their rapid growth. 21 520

He is loyal and direct. He worries openly for Huo Yuhao, keeps Xu Jie's secrets concerning the Soul Contract System, and accepts the Rakshasa inheritance because he promised to help Xu Jie and Huo Yuhao. 121 305 520

Despite his status, Dugu Lu can be anxious and cautious when faced with genuine danger. He was intimidated by Di Tian, worried about becoming Xu Jie's test subject, and feared the pressure of being examined by Du Busi and the Golden Body Douluo. 275 276 286
