Background / History

Yao Chen was once a Nine-Revolution Dou Zun and an eighth-grade alchemist renowned as the continent's former number one Alchemist. At his height, he won the Pill Gathering's Alchemist Competition, drawing Dou Zong and Dou Zun experts to Starfall Pavilion in search of his pills. He was also Starfall Pavilion's original Pavilion Master, a position Venerable Feng deliberately kept vacant during his long absence. 55 113 136 141

His life was shattered after Han Feng, the disciple he had raised, betrayed and killed him. Yao Chen survived only as a soul, concealed within Xiao Yan's ring. The loss of Han Feng remains a source of grief rather than simple hatred, while his resentment toward Old Man Mu Gu is even more intense. 54 113 127

While recuperating in the ring, Yao Chen absorbed Xiao Yan's Dou Qi, reducing the boy from a One-Star Dou Zhe to the eighth stage of Dou Qi. After recovering through the Yin-Yang Mysterious Dragon Pill, he revealed himself to Xiao Zhan and accepted Xiao Yan as his disciple to settle the karma between them. 48 54

Ao Qing later recruited Yao Chen for Canaan Academy's Alchemy Hall, offering him a new body and Han Feng's soul in return for his service. Though initially reluctant, Yao Chen accepted. Ao Qing subsequently refined a Dou Saint-level body for him, allowing his resurrection as a Half-Saint. 114 116

Yao Chen took revenge during the Soul Hall's assault on Canaan Academy, killing Blood River and Old Man Mu Gu. He then resolved to make the Soul Hall answer for the suffering it had caused him. 128 129
