Background / History

Ao Qing hatched from a True Dragon egg that had remained dormant for thousands of years in the True Dragon Secret Realm. His birth as a five-clawed golden dragon released bloodline pressure throughout the Ancient Dragon Realm. Seven ancient elders, who had guarded the secret realm for millennia, received him as the clan's long-awaited Young Master 2 7.

He inherited the legacy of the True Dragon Lord: the True Dragon Nine Transformations, the Soul Shocking Spear and its techniques, and the Dragon Pearl. The Dragon Pearl enabled his human transformation and contained vast Source Qi; its artifact spirit predicted that Ao Qing could eventually reach Dou Di 3.

After cultivating in seclusion, he chose to leave the Ancient Dragon World rather than wait passively for a distant breakthrough. He traveled to the Northwest Continent to monitor the Xiao Family, secure the Ancient Jade, and obtain Strange Fires before other major factions could do so 7 13.

His early actions placed the Misty Cloud Sect under his arrangements, establishing it as an intelligence network around Wutan City. He later developed Canaan Academy into a protected allied force, negotiated for the Fallen Heart Flame, and recruited or aided figures including Yao Chen, the Little Fairy Doctor, and Aru Na 12 36 114 131.

Over time, Ao Qing became increasingly central to the Ancient Void Dragon Clan's revival. He protected the Yao Clan during the Soul Clan's assault, confronted powerful clans and Soul Hall forces, and was identified as the Ancient Void Dragon Clan's leader during the great war 139 172.

Ao Qing is initially cold, cautious, and disinclined to socialize. Having been lonely for a long time, he prefers a stable, private life and is slow to lower his guard; nevertheless, he is consistently polite to those he respects, especially the seven elders 2.

He is calculating and patient rather than recklessly aggressive. Although capable of taking the Xiao Clan's Ancient Jade by force, he initially avoids doing so because he expects hidden safeguards from the Gu Clan and does not wish to expose his identity prematurely 9 13. He values strength, preparation, and the freedom to determine his own fate 6.

Ao Qing can be merciful when it serves his principles or goals: he defeated the Misty Cloud Sect without killing its members and left Yun Yun as sect master rather than converting the sect into puppets 11 12. However, he is also ruthless when he deems someone a future threat or no longer useful, as shown by his betrayal and killing of Xiao Xuan and his killing of Xiao Yan in the Heavenly Tomb 166.
