Mu En fought the former Body Sect master, Body Douluo Du Bisi, when both were Rank 98 Super Douluo. Though Du Bisi later died from his wounds, Mu En sustained a crippling waist injury that permanently left him unable to straighten his back; he nevertheless later reached Rank 99 100.
As Sea God Pavilion Master, Mu En led Shrek Academy while largely remaining in the pavilion. He had not accepted a disciple for nearly a century before recognizing Zhu Ziyang's potential and taking him as his final and most valued disciple 71 73. He personally cleansed Zhu Ziyang's marrow, opened auxiliary meridians and hidden acupoints, and discovered the youth's second, Ultimate Ice Martial Soul 72.

An entity claiming to be the Sea God drew Mu En's soul into a blue space and ordered him to kill Zhu Ziyang as an alleged Evil God inheritor. Mu En refused to act without evidence, escaped the encounter injured, and declined rapidly afterward 248 250.
Before his death, Mu En named Xuan Zi acting Pavilion Master and Zhu Ziyang his eventual successor. He then transformed into a radiant white dragon and merged with the Golden Ancient Tree, releasing a golden phenomenon that benefited the cultivators on Heavenly Origin Island 256 257. Zhu Ziyang formally succeeded to the renamed Heavenly Origin Pavilion Master position at age nineteen 315.
