Background
Orochimaru lost his parents while young and later became the Third Hokage's student alongside Jiraiya and Tsunade. The three earned the title of the Three Legendary Sannin during the Second Great Ninja War. Witnessing extensive death—including the losses suffered by Tsunade—convinced Orochimaru that life was fragile and drove him to pursue immortality. 153
Originally, Orochimaru sought to learn every ninjutsu in the world. His research later expanded into soul transfer, body modification, genetic experimentation, cloning, and techniques intended to evade death. 154 156
He was once respected within Konoha and regarded as a potential Hokage. Despite having completed 108 S-rank missions before Minato Namikaze became Fourth Hokage, Orochimaru lost the nomination to Minato; the rejection accelerated his descent into villainy. 153
After leaving Akatsuki, Orochimaru established the Sound Village in the Land of Rice Fields. Its public founder remained concealed, while its ninja and prisoners were treated as assets for his experiments and military ambitions. 152 157
Appearance
Orochimaru has a corpse-like pale complexion and an unnerving, serpentine appearance. His body modifications allow him to move and escape in ways a normal human body cannot. 152 154
- Golden eyes with vertical snake-like pupils. 152
- Purple eyeshadow extending toward his nostrils. 152
- A long, snake-like tongue. 153
- Usually wears a kimono; Kimimaro and Sasuke later adopt similar clothing styles. 206
- Retained his familiar appearance after reincarnating into Kimimaro's body. 210
Personality
Orochimaru is intensely curious, practical, and devoted to experimentation. He views himself as a scientist who “believes in science,” pursuing knowledge without being constrained by conventional morality. 153 155
His ambitions are tempered by powerful survival instincts. He is willing to abandon a losing battle, use subordinates as sacrifices, or change bodies to preserve himself and continue his research. 154 156 185
Though manipulative and ruthless, Orochimaru possesses enough charisma to inspire extreme loyalty. Kimimaro willingly accepts becoming his vessel, while Sasuke is persuaded that Orochimaru can offer the rapid growth he seeks. 152 199 210
Abilities & Skills
Ninjutsu Knowledge and Research
Orochimaru possesses extensive knowledge of chakra, physical energy, spiritual energy, forbidden techniques, bloodlines, and medical experimentation. He maintains a major collection of ninjutsu scrolls and chakra research data. 156 157
- Researched the cellular relationship to physical and spiritual energy. 156
- Collected hundreds of ninjutsu, including Uchiha Clan techniques such as Fire Style: Great Fireball. 157
- Developed and used cloning, cell transplantation, genetic modification, and body-alteration techniques. 156 157
- Successfully transplanted Nagato's Rinnegan into a Cloud Village jonin and trained the recipient to use Almighty Push and Universal Pull. 189
- Efficiently trained multiple Rinnegan recipients over time. 190
Snake Ninjutsu and Body Modification
Orochimaru has modified his body with soft tissue and developed numerous snake-based techniques to increase his survivability. 154
- Great Snake Escape Technique — escapes from a snake's body or produces himself from within one, allowing him to evade otherwise lethal damage. 154 155
- Hidden Shadow Snake Hands — releases snakes from his sleeves to attack opponents. 155
- Can scatter his disrupted body into venomous snakes and conceal his main body among them. 154
- Regrew a severed left hand during his battle with Richard. 155
Eight Branches Technique
Orochimaru's greatest trump card transforms him into a massive white serpent with eight heads and eight tails. 153 155
- The transformed body is powerful enough that ordinary attacks cannot break its scales. 156
- Orochimaru can regenerate himself by releasing the technique before the transformed body is destroyed completely. 156
- The form was decisively defeated when Richard's Dimension Slash cut it into hundreds of pieces. 156
Impure World Reincarnation
Orochimaru uses Impure World Reincarnation to summon and control the dead through living sacrifices. 184 185
- Summoned the First and Second Hokage during the Leaf Village Destruction Plan. 184
- Erased their consciousness and emotions before ordering them to fight the Third Hokage. 184
- Used two Sound Village jonin as sacrifices in place of Kin and Zaku. 185
Disguise and Infiltration
Orochimaru is adept at assuming false identities to execute long-term plans inside enemy territory. 172
- Disguised himself as the Sound Village team's jonin leader during the Chunin Exams. 172
- Used the Face Copying Technique to pose as a Grass Village examinee. 172
- Also impersonated the Fourth Kazekage during the final stage of the exams. 172 182

- Kimimaro — Fanatically loyal subordinate and leader of the Sound Five. Kimimaro later willingly allows Orochimaru to reincarnate into his body. 152 210
- Third Hokage — Former teacher and final opponent during the Leaf Village Destruction Plan. Orochimaru uses reincarnated Hokage and the Grasscutter Sword against him; the Third Hokage ultimately dies after employing the Reaper Death Seal. 184 185

- Tsunade — Former teammate and fellow Legendary Sannin; Orochimaru's experiences with the deaths of Nawaki and Kato Dan contributed to his obsession with overcoming mortality. 153
- Kabuto Yakushi — Subordinate and collaborator whose apparent loyalty is described as self-serving; Kabuto follows Orochimaru partly to discover his own identity. 152
- Sasuke Uchiha — Student accepted after Richard brings Sasuke to the Sound Village. Orochimaru trains him over three years and provides him with a Grasscutter Sword. 199 206
- Mitarashi Anko — Former student from Orochimaru's time as a respected Konoha ninja. 153
Story Role / Major Arcs
Encounter with Richard

He agrees to provide chakra information only if Richard defeats him. Orochimaru deploys snake techniques, the Grasscutter Sword, and finally the Eight Branches Technique, but loses conclusively to Richard's Dimension Slash. During the Chunin Exams invasion, Orochimaru takes the Third Hokage hostage within the Four Violet Flames Formation and summons the First and Second Hokage through Impure World Reincarnation. The Third Hokage dies after using the Reaper Death Seal, while Orochimaru escapes Konoha with the Sound and Sand forces. 182 184 185
Research Partnership with Richard

Orochimaru trains Rinnegan recipients for Richard, enabling them to use the Rinnegan's basic attraction and repulsion techniques before Richard kills them to plunder and strengthen his own abilities. 189 190
Sasuke's Training
Sasuke leaves Konoha in search of strength and becomes Orochimaru's student after Richard persuades Orochimaru to accept him. Richard considers Orochimaru a more capable teacher for Sasuke than himself. 198 199
Three years later, Sasuke has significantly improved under Orochimaru's instruction, mastering Chidori variations and Lightning Release: Kirin. Orochimaru acknowledges that matching Richard's power remains exceptionally difficult. 206 207
Reincarnation into Kimimaro
