Background / History
The Wordless Book was formed from manifested fragments of the Martial Path of another world. After several powerful beings fought to the death and shattered that world's Heavenly Dao, the damaged fragment crossed into Earth and became a snow-white square sheet of paper. Its remaining origin was so depleted that it could survive for only about another century without replenishment. 1198
Xiang Yang accidentally cut his finger on the paper while visiting his old home. His blood established communication with the Book, which recognized his great destiny and chose him as its owner. Because Earth was in an age of sparse spiritual energy, the Book used its power to carry Xiang Yang's soul into the Nineteen Provinces, where both could develop through its abundant spiritual energy and martial path destiny. 1 1198
After Xiang Yang's transmigration, the Book first manifested in his consciousness as a blank white paper. It split into layers, revealing text that imprinted directly into his mind. It initially explained that it could provide divine skills and secret techniques, then assigned three missions connected to Xiang Da Niu's murder. 2
As Xiang Yang grew stronger, the Book's missions, cultivation assistance, and rewards became central to his early and middle Martial Path. It later entered a long period of recovery after the appearance of the True Understanding of the Heavenly Saber, leaving Xiang Yang to rely increasingly on his own cultivation. 1197
When Xiang Yang faced the bottleneck of the Calamity of the Three Gates, he deliberately awakened the Book again. He discovered that it had evolved from a small blank paper into an endless scroll containing inscrutable, rule-like writing. The Book's restored nature allows it to bear the pressure of world power that would otherwise endanger a Martial Artist crossing the Three Gates. 1197 1198 1220
Appearance
The Wordless Book originally appears as a snow-white, blank square sheet of paper. When active, layers of paper covered in dense black writing peel out from it and project into Xiang Yang's vision. 1 2
- It is initially thin as a cicada's wing and entirely white. 51
- Its text is transmitted directly into Xiang Yang's memory, making it impossible for him to forget. 2
- After its transformation, it resembles a seemingly endless scroll covered with tiny characters in an unknown script. 1197
- Its later script gives Xiang Yang the impression of rules rather than ordinary writing. 1197
Abilities & Functions
Mission Issuance
The Book presents main, side, branch, and sole missions in response to events around Xiang Yang. These missions are optional; failure does not directly punish him, but forfeits the associated reward. 2
- Missions can involve investigation, rescue, combat, meeting a person, or killing a target. 2 132 202 677
- It may issue several mutually exclusive or simultaneous tasks in one situation. 35 150
- Its mission selection is not a moral judgment: it once offered Xiang Yang a reward for killing Wan Tiancheng despite their lack of enmity. Xiang Yang declined. 261
- Some major events do not trigger missions, demonstrating that its reactions are irregular rather than comprehensive. 408
- Missions function by intercepting subtle martial path destiny, allowing both Xiang Yang and the Book to benefit. 1198
Martial Arts Bestowal
The Book can transmit complete martial arts, divine skills, secret techniques, and cultivation methods directly into Xiang Yang's mind. 2 163
- It initially claimed knowledge of any martial art Xiang Yang could imagine, including Dragon Subduing Palm, Flying Immortal Beyond the Heavens, Telepathic Finger, and Little Li Flying Dagger. 2
- Techniques based on martial arts from Xiang Yang's memories are deduced from its Martial Path origin and are stated to be no weaker than their originals. 1198
- Indigenous techniques, such as Heavenly Star Protective Aura, are formed from the Book's absorption of the Nineteen Provinces' martial path origin. 1198
- Rewards may include individual techniques, years of Internal Energy, years of cultivation progress, or large martial arts packages. 96 216 328 369
Cultivation Assistance
The Book can directly enhance Xiang Yang's comprehension and cultivation process. During his first attempt to sense qi, its light synchronized with his breathing and enabled him to succeed far earlier than his natural talent should have allowed. 51
- Its illumination creates a quiet, warm mental state that heightens Xiang Yang's comprehension. 51
- It can directly grant accumulated Internal Energy and martial arts cultivation progress. 96 138 216
- Such assistance does not replace personal effort; rewards involving years of practice still require Xiang Yang to endure the corresponding training experience. 216
- It enabled Xiang Yang to pursue a broad, multi-disciplinary Martial Path that would be dangerously difficult for most practitioners to manage. 265
Heavenly Illusion Secret Realm
The Book can send Xiang Yang's essence, True Qi, and spirit into the Heavenly Illusion Secret Realm, where he can gain real martial arts experience without physically leaving his original world. 329
- Xiang Yang's physical body remains behind in a warm, breathing, suspended state. 329
- Skills and mastery acquired within the realm carry over into reality. 329
- A one-year Secret Realm reward was considered more valuable to Xiang Yang than the Little Li Flying Dagger. 329
Protection Against the Calamity of the Three Gates
After completing its recovery, the Book can absorb the overwhelming power of heaven and earth that enters Xiang Yang during his breakthrough. 1198 1220
- It allows Xiang Yang to withstand world power without suffering the backlash that threatens ordinary Three Gates Martial Artists. 1220
- Xiang Yang believes its connection to his foreign soul and origin world provides the coordinate needed to eventually Shatter the Void. 1198
- Its protection also gives Xiang Yang a path to help Ning Ke overcome the Calamity of the Three Gates through their intertwined cultivation. 1198
