Background / History

Luo Ya remembers a past life and theorizes that his innate power may be connected to a Qiongqi pendant he bought before transmigrating. Unlike a Devil Fruit power, Qiongqi is an inborn ability; Luo Ya nevertheless claimed it was the “Zoan-Zoan Fruit, Mythical Zoan, Qiongqi form” to fit into the pirate world. Its sheer potential earned him a place as an intern in the Rocks Pirates despite Rocks' dislike of children. 2

At seven years old, Luo Ya trained in swordsmanship under Golden Lion Shiki, whom he calls “Uncle Shiki.” He was present at God Valley, though he regarded himself as insignificant amid the battle between monsters. 2 18

Six years after God Valley, Luo Ya reunited with Kaido and fought him to a standstill through disaster-based warfare and inexhaustible recovery. Rather than submit to Kaido or demand Kaido's submission, he proposed that they join each other's organizations as equal outside affiliates. 29 30

Appearance

Luo Ya's appearance varies sharply between his ordinary body and Qiongqi transformations.

  • In his youth, he is about 1.7 meters tall, with slightly curly black hair, exceptionally fair skin, curved eyebrows, and a naturally smiling expression; he wears noble-style robes and carries a sword. 28
  • His Qiongqi traits include sharp, quill-like black fur, broad black wings, upward-pointing horns, and bronze patterns across the horns. 2
  • His beast form is a winged black tiger measuring over fifteen meters long during his fight with Kaido; it later grows to nearly twenty meters. 29 103
  • His tiger warrior form is approximately 1.8 meters tall and is suited to fighting with both Enma and Tiger Soul. 103

Personality

Luo Ya is calculating and unusually pragmatic in his alliances. He rejects Golden Lion's offer to become his heir because Kaido treats him as an equal and shares his ambition to overthrow the World Government; he instead favors alliances whose members retain their independence. 30 77

He treats Calamity Company as a means to create wars, suffering, and therefore black energy for himself. He uses weapons sales, transportation, public opinion, and underworld contacts to make the world more chaotic, while delegating routine work because he openly dislikes office work. 64 95

Luo Ya is also capable of loyalty and protectiveness toward those he accepts. He rescues Kaido from a government laboratory, frees Abel before rescuing Kaido, and gives his subordinates opportunities to grow stronger. 43 44 95

Abilities & Skills

Qiongqi

Luo Ya's innate Qiongqi power embodies natural and man-made disasters. It is not a Devil Fruit ability, though its transformations resemble a Mythical Zoan's. 2

  • Can transform between human, beast, and beast-man forms. 2
  • Uses his horns to invoke environment-dependent natural disasters. 2
    • On land: earthquakes, landslides, and volcanic eruptions. 2 54
    • Near water: redirected rivers, floods, and tsunamis. 2
    • In the sky: storms, hurricanes, lightning, and meteor showers. 2 30
  • Created the hurricane technique Thunder Welcome Vortex, trapping Kaido inside a storm filled with lightning. 30
  • Cannot freely use earth- or water-based disaster techniques while fighting in the sky. 30

Negative Emotion Manipulation

Luo Ya's eyes perceive negative emotions and can suppress a target's goodness while intensifying malice. 2

  • Can drive weak-willed people into evil acts or permanently alter their personalities. 2
  • Can turn those consumed by malice into obedient Wailing Ghosts. 2
  • Converted Chinjao into a Wailing Ghost capable of hearing only Luo Ya's commands. 95
  • Strong-willed targets are difficult to permanently influence. 64

Black Energy Absorption and Regeneration

Suffering produced by disasters becomes black energy that Luo Ya can absorb. 2

  • Functions as food and water for him. 2
  • Restores stamina and rapidly heals injuries. 2 54
  • Allows him to sustain disaster attacks far beyond normal limits while sufficient suffering exists nearby. 30 54
  • Promotes the evolution of both Luo Ya and his abilities. 2
  • Can heal him even when no nearby people appear to be supplying suffering, a phenomenon that surprises Golden Lion. 225

Haki

Luo Ya uses Armament, Observation, and Conqueror's Haki in conjunction with his swordsmanship and disasters.

  • His early Armament Haki was inferior to Kaido's, leaving him unable to win equal exchanges of force. 29
  • Can coat blades with Conqueror's Haki. 79
  • Uses future sight to predict opponents' actions. 86
  • Learns internal-destruction Armament Haki principles from Rayleigh and later applies the technique in battle. 86 87

Swordsmanship

Luo Ya is a one-sword and two-sword fighter whose style emphasizes heavy, aggressive exchanges rather than formal dojo technique. 54 225

  • Reached the realm of cutting steel and became a master swordsman. 29
  • Uses blood qi through Tiger Soul to magnify sword strikes and flying slashes. 29
  • Named techniques include Emperor Sword: Breaking Blade, Lion's Might: Thousand Cut Valley, Tiger Devour, Tiger Roar, and Tiger Hunt. 29 54
  • Can combine sword techniques with giant-style attacks, including Elbaf Spear: Ikoku Sovereignty. 54

Hasshoken

Luo Ya mastered Hasshoken after obtaining its training method from Chinjao's son. 95

  • Releases shockwaves capable of piercing defenses and deflecting blades. 95
  • Can combine the martial art with Haki for greater output. 95
  • Considers it particularly useful for Bullet and Abel, whose Armament Haki had not yet advanced beyond hardening. 95
