Marine Defection and the Flevance Crisis

At age twenty-three, Dragon serves as a young Marine guarding Pangea Castle. His Observation Haki lets him sense suffering beneath the castle, and he is disturbed by the World Government's treatment of its people. 90

After transferring to North Blue, he attempts to mediate between moderate and extremist Flevance survivors. Once his identity as Garp's son becomes public, he abandons the Marines and calls on the survivors to overthrow the World Government rather than indiscriminately attack other nations. 113 114 117

Zephyr initially confronts Dragon as a Marine, but the two reach common ground: the World Government's exploitation of member and non-member nations perpetuates the cycle of crime and extremism. 127 128

Self-Respect Army and Roa's “Alliance”

Dragon becomes the leader of the Self-Respect Army, but Roa has already infiltrated Flevance groups and monitors Dragon's actions. Roa dispatches Bullet, Abel, and the Calamity Legion against the army, crushing its forces and forcing Dragon to acknowledge defeat. 113 141

After surviving, Dragon decides to use the temporary cooperation Roa permits to build strength against both the World Government and Roa himself. 142

Collapse and Reformation

Dragon and Ivankov risk their lives to rescue Bear from the Charlotte Family, demonstrating Dragon's commitment to his comrades. 232 234

Roa's second “punishment” forces the Self-Respect Army into premature uprisings. The ensuing suppression destroys much of the movement and leaves Dragon injured, enraged, and regretful. 239 308

Break with the Revolutionary Army

Alliance with Shanks and Final Resistance

Dragon encounters Shanks and Níðhöggr in East Blue. After explaining that he left the original Revolutionary Army because of Roa's control, he forms an alliance with Shanks against both Roa and the World Government. 345 346

Following Roa's defeat of Imu and seizure of world power, Dragon and Shanks resolve to continue resisting despite recognizing that their chances are slim. 360
