Background

Shiki was a top executive of the Rocks Pirates during Grand Line Calendar 1484, shortly before the God Valley incident and the crew's collapse. During this period, he participated in the destruction of Doldia Island and treated the young Roa as a subordinate while recognizing his potential. 1 2

He trained Roa extensively, using remote-controlled swords to push the child beyond his limits. Roa called him “Uncle Shiki,” while Shiki’s lessons and sparring became the foundation of their master-and-disciple relationship. 2 15 76

Search for Roa

Years after the Rocks Pirates' dissolution, Shiki searched the New World for Roa, ordering the Flying Pirates to scour the seas for him. After learning that Roa was in Wano, he descended from the sky aboard a massive floating island and invited him to a banquet. 74 75 76

At the banquet, Shiki attempted to recruit Roa as his heir and offered him an island. Roa rejected the offer in favor of his alliance with Kaido, escalating Shiki and Kaido's long-standing rivalry into a best-of-three contest. 77 79

Hunt for Roger

Shiki discovered traces of the Roger Pirates while searching for Roa. He sought to force Roger into becoming his right-hand man, offering Roa a Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit in exchange for assistance locating and confronting Roger. 81
