Background / History
The Demon Realm was created by the first Demon King, Satan. Its creation displaced neighboring worlds, leaving the Abyss compressed to one side and the Underworld separated by the Styx on the other. Satan also created the Demon Realm Gate to travel to the Sacred Continent. 367 474 482 597
After its creation, the realm developed its own will. This will exists to protect the Demon Realm and cultivate a Demon King, rather than thinking like an ordinary living being. 403
Satan created demons and the Seven Great Desires, but later disappeared. In the resulting power vacuum, powerful factions fought over the Desires, believing that subduing all seven was necessary to become Demon King. 135 597
The realm’s three moons were once whole until Bemonstein, a monster from outer space, devoured parts of each moon before Satan killed it. The damage remains visible in the Demon Realm’s night sky. 394 398
A thousand years before the present story, the second Demon King, Satan, invaded the Sacred Continent through the Demon Realm Gate. His defeat forced the Demon King’s Army back into the Demon Realm, where it fragmented into competing factions. 367 464
Geography
- The Demon Realm is larger than the Sacred Continent. Blood Moon City is one of its twelve main cities and lies far from the Demon Realm Gate. 397
- Its night sky contains three damaged moons:
- Red Moon — the largest, with a chunk missing.
- Yellow Moon — reduced to an incomplete half.
- Blue Moon — a quarter-moon surrounded by fragments. 394
- Barren Bone Plains — a dead expanse of bones stretching thousands of kilometers; the Skull Duke raised tens of millions of undead there. 388
- Death Desert — a lethal desert inhabited by heat-resistant tribes and dangerous Magic Beasts. 422
- No Man’s Land — a lawless region used by bandits and Great Demons. 468 469
- Demon King’s Castle — an ancient fortress surrounded by dense demonic energy and unusually rich Magic Power; after Amon’s enthronement, it serves as the mobile headquarters of the Demon King’s Army. 493 504
Society
The Demon Realm contains many races, including Black Demons, Werewolves, Vampires, Succubi, Dark Elves, Fallen Angels, Orcs, Skeletons, and self-aware undead. 397 504 508
Its harsher regions operate on the principle that the strong prey on the weak. Bandits raid villages, enslave weaker demons, and sell them openly; unlike on the Sacred Continent, slave trading is legal. 469 589
- Fallen Angels are regarded as the strongest race in the Demon Realm and are notorious for their pride and contempt toward other races. 424
- Succubi can grow stronger by absorbing the vital energy of powerful males; their strength enabled them to hold a major city. 424
- Demon Locusts are a native plague species that travel in swarms large enough to darken the sky. 414
- Abyss monsters enter through Demon Realm Rifts created by the realm’s collision with the Abyss. Abyss Pillars were established to seal them. 474
Despite its history of war with humanity, demon and human merchants resumed limited trade after centuries of reconciliation. The Church screens demons entering the Sacred Continent and restricts those above a certain combat level. 235
Will of the Demon Realm
The will of the Demon Realm is the authority that recognizes and supports a legitimate Demon King. Exceptional personal power alone is insufficient for the title. 403
Recognition of Amon
Amon was recognized while still weak, a reversal of the usual pattern in which a demon must first become one of the realm’s strongest beings. Dragon interprets this as proof that the will had decisively selected her as the next Demon King. 403
- Amon bears a concealed Demon King’s mark within her Magic Power source. 403
- Her Magic Power source is described as an abyss vastly larger than Mayona’s, but it initially could not be filled. 403
- The will manipulated prophecy to conceal Amon’s identity, repeatedly making Mayona appear as the greatest threat to Dirge. 467
- It later guided Amon toward invading the Sacred Continent by exploiting her longing for Ruby. 509
Demon King Authority
Upon Amon’s enthronement, the will announced her name, Bemonstein, across the entire Demon Realm through a realm-wide shower of pink petals and an ancient voice. 504
The enthroned Demon King can command the Seven Great Desires above their former masters. Amon immediately called the Demon Sword, Greed’s earrings, and Jealousy’s armor to herself, though she returned the Demon Sword to Ruyue. 478 504
Demon Realm Gate
The Demon Realm Gate stands in the center of the Sacred Continent. It is a thousand-meter black archway whose pillars and lintel bear seven symbols identified as the Seven Deadly Sins. A translucent membrane in its center permits two-way viewing and passage. 367 389
- Creator: Satan, the first Demon King. 367 389
- Guardians: The Church maintains a permanent Paladin garrison near the gate; the Four Great Empires fund the defense. 367 389
- Historical use: The second Satan used it to invade the Sacred Continent a thousand years earlier. 367
- Sealing: When the Skull Duke’s Bone Undead invaded, the Pope and four Cardinals invoked Angel Attachment and used Two Realms Seal to close the gate. 389
- Breach: Lucifer later tore open a passage through the golden seal and entered the Sacred Continent. 433
Major Arcs
Skull Duke’s Undead Invasion
The Skull Duke awakened tens of millions of undead on the Barren Bone Plains and sent them toward the Demon Realm Gate. Bone Soldiers, Bone Birds, Bone Eagles, and Bone Dragons crossed into the Sacred Continent before the Church sealed the gateway. 388 389
Amon’s Selection and Ascension
Amon summoned Ruby into the Demon Realm through an equal contract, giving him half of her lifespan. Her weak Magic Power was attributed to the immense capacity of her unfilled source. 395 403
Satan later returned through a magic array in the Demon King’s Castle and acted as a conduit, absorbing Magic Power from across the realm and transferring it to Amon for a day and night. The process left the Demon Realm’s overall Magic Power depleted for centuries, but allowed Amon to maintain her mature Demon King form permanently. 493 494
Unification Under Bemonstein
After Amon’s enthronement, the Succubi, Dark Elves, and Fallen Angels quickly pledged allegiance. Amon then compelled Blood Moon City’s vampire leader, Aila, to submit beneath the Demon King’s Castle. 504
Two months later, the Demon King’s Army included the Succubus, Vampire, Dark Elf, Fallen Angel, Orc, Demon Person, and Skeleton races, among others. 508
Amon eventually killed Dirge, the final major force resisting her rule, becoming the undisputed ruler of the Demon Realm. 509
Invasion of the Sacred Continent
Guided by the will of the Demon Realm and driven by her obsession with Ruby, Amon assembled a demon army numbering in the millions at the Demon Realm Gate. 509 510
The army advanced through the gate and attacked the Sacred Continent, while Amon destroyed Rhine Magic Academy after Principal Harvey’s Forbidden Spell failed to stop her. 511 512
Twelve years later, accounts record that the third Demon King’s invasion was ended when three Goddesses defeated the Demon King after a three-day battle. 520
