Background / History

Dragon initially accompanies Ruby as a disguised, transforming companion, taking the form of practical objects while often resting on his partner's head as a talking branch with one eye. Ruby refuses to treat him as property, explicitly calling Dragon his partner and allowing him to decide for himself whether to assist Ryan's expedition. Dragon likewise values this arrangement because he dislikes being subordinate to anyone. 39 100 413

His identity is later revealed to be Lust, one of the Seven Great Desires. Desires may select their own masters, but a genuine Demon King outranks their original masters and must be aided by them. When Amon manifests the Demon King's mark, Dragon explains that this obligation applies to every Desire. 413 478

Dragon also holds a revered place among the succubi as their creator and “Father God.” When he returns to Moonlit City after centuries away, Succubi gather at their cathedral to see him; Queen Yulina immediately recognizes him and entrusts Ruby's medical intervention to his authority. 423 430

Appearance

Dragon most often appears as a small branch or twig-like body with a single purple eye, usually perched on Ruby's head or shoulder. His true nature is concealed behind this deliberately unimposing form. 39 493

He is also arrogant and mischievous. Dragon enjoys provoking others, withholds useful information to watch people struggle, and dismisses most people around him as inferior to himself. Rejection can genuinely upset him, however; after being mocked for his size by a woman in Elrek, he became depressed and flew erratically with Ruben. 39 67 493

Despite his crude humor, Dragon regards Ruby as a genuine friend rather than a master. He assists with Ruby's projects, protects him when necessary, and approves when Ruby takes time to relax instead of treating every moment as a responsibility. 67 203 282
