Nature

Nascent Soul is one of the shared foundational realms of Xuanwei Realm cultivation. Qi Refinement, Foundation Establishment, Core Formation, and Nascent Soul are common across cultivation systems; methods diverge into distinct paths only after Spirit Transformation. 684

The realm is regarded as a qualitative rebirth rather than a simple increase in spiritual power. A cultivator's Nascent Soul begins as an insubstantial new body, gradually becomes solid, and may eventually use the original physical body as nourishment. This transformation raises the expected lifespan from roughly one thousand years at Golden Core to ten thousand years at Nascent Soul. 188

Formation

Relationship to the Golden Core

Under the prevailing Life-bound Dharma Treasure path, a Golden Core cultivator first condenses the seed of a Life-bound Dharma Treasure, nurtures it through the middle stage, and forms the treasure completely at Late-Stage Golden Core. Only then can the Golden Core be shattered to form a Nascent Soul. 328

Zheng Fa's Golden Core research proposes a material explanation for this transition:

• Qi Refinement stores spiritual energy.
• Foundation Establishment gives that energy tangible form.
• Golden Core uses it to generate new particles.
• Those particles form the Nascent Soul, creating a new vessel for subsequent cultivation. 276 277

Golden Core quality remains important to the breakthrough. Upper-Grade Golden Cores contain fewer impurities and offer better prospects of reaching Nascent Soul. 274

Tribulations

Nascent Soul Formation is dangerous and includes an Inner Demon Tribulation, making close associates potential targets for enemies seeking to obstruct a breakthrough. 181

• Vast spiritual-energy phenomena and tribulation clouds visible across great distances. 178 184
• Tribulation lightning capable of destroying protective Dharma Treasures. 184
• Yin Fire that burns away the Golden Core's shell before the Nascent Soul emerges. 417

The Nine Mountains Sect later develops a more standardized approach to Nascent Soul Formation, using accumulated observations, cultivation guidance, resources, and contingency planning to reduce its risks. 414 516

Nine Mountains Golden Core Method

For cultivators using the completed Nine Mountains Golden Core Method, the Divine Origin Great Pill condenses the Yin Five Elements once the Yang Five Elements have reached completion. The resulting union of yin and yang initiates Nascent Soul Formation. 415

Zheng Fa deliberately undergoes his own breakthrough under observation by spiritual-energy measuring devices and the Void-Piercing Spirit Eye so that later cultivators can benefit from recorded data rather than personal recollection alone. 414

Manifestation

A Nascent Soul generally reflects both its cultivator's Divine Soul and physical body. Zhang Wuyi's Nascent Soul resembles her, while changes to Zheng Fa's Azure Yang Dao Body and Fusang Wood also alter the developing form within his Golden Core. 370

• A newborn, infant-like form immediately after the Golden Core's shell is burned away. 417

Cultivation After Nascent Soul

There is no universally fixed path from Nascent Soul to Spirit Transformation. According to Zhang Wuyi and Pang True Person, each Spirit Transformation cultivator follows a different direction, leaving Nascent Soul cultivators without a single standardized higher-realm method. 188

Late-Stage Nascent Soul cultivators are called Grand Cultivators. Their strength can vary enormously: some are only marginally stronger than Nascent Soul Middle Stage cultivators, while others are held back from Spirit Transformation only by a lack of opportunity. 184

Advanced techniques may also require Nascent Soul cultivation. The final realm of the Insightful Spirit Eyes, Insighting the Void, is considered effectively impossible to attain before reaching Nascent Soul. 121

Capabilities and Status

Dharma Treasure Formation

Dharma Treasures were originally treasures that only Nascent Soul cultivators could forge. Venerable Tianhe's Life-bound Dharma Treasure Method later allowed Golden Core cultivators to begin refining them earlier, though the treasure does not fully take shape until Nascent Soul. 442

Collective Formations

Nascent Soul cultivators can serve as the backbone of major sect formations. The Heavenly Circuit Divine Thunder Immortal Formation combines twenty-four Nascent Soul cultivators to produce Spirit Transformation-level power. 341

Sect Hierarchy

Within the Nine Mountains Sect, only Nascent Soul cultivators are permitted to reside on the mountain, where spiritual energy is denser due to the sect's grand formation. 88

Nascent Soul sects also occupy a dominant position in the wider Hundred Immortals Alliance: they control more than eighty percent of major Dharma Treasures, pills, marketplaces, and talisman trade. 425

Historical Development

Venerable Tianhe is credited with creating the Natal Spirit Treasure Method after forming his Golden Core. It became the foremost Nascent Soul Formation method in the Xuanwei Realm, and its creation reportedly caused anomalies across the realm. 176

The Nine Mountains Sect's later Golden Core Engineering project reframes Nascent Soul Formation as a process that can be researched, measured, optimized, and taught. Its long-term objective is to make Upper-Grade Golden Cores and Nascent Soul breakthroughs more attainable rather than dependent solely on secret inheritances or individual fortune. 277 295
