The Summoned children of the Holy Light, Hurry and Create Miracles!
Although most of its territory had been reclaimed in the past few days, Quel'Thalas was still in terrible condition.
Even with the Tides of Life bestowed by Lady Eonar, which had brought some of the dead back to life, Kael'thas reached a shocking conclusion after a preliminary assessment of Silvermoon City following its recapture.
Half.
At least half of the Sin'dorei elves had died in the demon invasion.
And that proportion could more or less be applied to the other races across Azeroth as well. Had it not been for Lady Eonar's final wave of "mass resurrection," this already horrifying casualty count might have climbed even higher.
Yet because of this war, Azeroth had gained powerful reinforcements from the Shadowlands, allowing the power of death to bloom in the material world for the first time. As a result, Kael'thas now faced a rather "darkly humorous" reality.
The Sin'dorei's terrifying Magic Addiction, combined with the elves' absurd affinity for energy, meant that not all Sin'dorei who entered death had become ghouls or death knights. A considerable number had transformed into the bizarre San'layn due to the overlap of those two factors.
In other words, blood elves.
This was a unique branch of the undead. So far, only elves with Magic Addiction transformed into this form after death.
They bore many similarities to the "vampires" of folk tales: bloodthirsty, able to walk the shadows, afraid of sunlight, cold and ruthless. Thus, in the reports of recent days, Kael'thas's generals had simply started calling them "vampires."
From the perspective of the living, these San'layn were certainly dead.
But if Kael'thas considered the matter from a "higher" perspective, it was not hard to see that Quel'Thalas's losses had not actually been as catastrophic
