Overview

A Martial Soul is awakened by an individual and serves as the foundation for their soul power, soul rings, soul skills, and combat specialization. Its quality, attributes, form, and compatibility strongly affect a soul master's cultivation speed and fighting ability. A Martial Soul may be inherited, mutated, evolve through external opportunities, or—rarely—exist alongside additional Martial Souls. 1 30 238

Awakening

Martial Souls are awakened during an awakening ceremony. Possessing Innate Soul Power is necessary to begin soul master cultivation; its level affects a person's starting potential. Huo Yuhao's initial awakening revealed only Rank One Innate Soul Power, the lowest level, and a Martial Soul other than the Evil Eye White Tiger expected by the Duke's Mansion. 1

Some awakenings produce unusual physical traits even when the Martial Soul is not activated. These traits provide high compatibility with the Martial Soul and can improve both cultivation speed and combat ability, but may also make the bearer vulnerable if they cannot protect themselves. 317

Forms and classifications

Beast Martial Souls

Beast Martial Souls manifest animal or creature traits. Their users may gain physical transformations, including scales, fur, wings, claws, or altered pupils.

The degree to which a user's transformed body resembles the Martial Soul indicates their fusion rate and combat potential. Vertical pupils are described as an iconic sign of high fusion for Beast Martial Soul users. 48

Body Martial Souls

A Body Martial Soul is based on a part of the user's body, such as eyes, palms, or wings. The Spirit Eye is one such Martial Soul. 80 317

Body Martial Souls can undergo a secondary awakening, with Silver Grade and Golden Grade cited as stages. Huo Yuhao's Spirit Eye reaches Golden Grade after absorbing the Martial Soul stripped from Xiao Lixuan. 186

Plant and tool Martial Souls

Martial Souls may also take the form of plants, weapons, or other non-beast entities.

Attributes and quality

A Martial Soul's attribute determines the types of soul skills and combat applications it can support. High-quality Martial Souls can suppress weaker ones, while exceptional evolutions may grant attributes such as Ultimate Ice, Ultimate Fire, Ultimate Poison, or Sacred power. 101 181 242 297

A Martial Soul's potential is not determined solely by bloodline. Personal talent, opportunity, and external stimulation can allow descendants of powerful Martial Souls to achieve qualities their predecessors did not. 238

Mutation

A Martial Soul may mutate, producing an ability or form different from an expected inherited Martial Soul. Huo Yuhao attributes his unusual talent to a possible mutation. 30

Evolution

Martial Souls can evolve after absorbing rare energies, soul rings, soul bones, or through Soul Spirit Contracts.

Huo Yuhao's original ice-element Martial Soul absorbed power from the Icefire Yin Yang Well and the Ice Dragon King, evolving into a Beast Martial Soul with ice-white dragon scales, vertical pupils, enhanced physical ability, and retained temperature control. 48

Later changes to this Martial Soul include:

• Deep blue-purple scale patterns after absorbing an Abyssal Dragon soul ring. 198
• A camouflage effect derived from the Abyssal Dragon's scales. 198

Twin and multiple Martial Souls

A person may possess more than one Martial Soul. Twin Martial Souls are exceptionally rare and allow a soul master to develop separate soul ring configurations and combat paths.

• Huo Yuhao possesses the Spirit Eye and an Ultimate Ice Martial Soul. 101
• Huo Yuhao later gains a third Martial Soul created from Old Yi's Divine Sense to serve as a vessel for the seven Original Sin Sources. 226

The third Martial Soul is incomplete at its creation. Its purpose is to carry the Original Sin Sources, improve Huo Yuhao's control over them, and reduce their influence over his mind. 226

Soul rings and soul skills

Soul rings are attached to Martial Souls and grant soul skills. Their number generally reflects a soul master's cultivation stage, while their age and quality influence the power of the acquired skill.

A soul ring can also form without a conventional hunt under exceptional circumstances. Huo Yuhao's Eye of Destiny forms a soul ring after an attribute-guidance event with the Auspicious Beast, granting Sorrow of Destiny and Soul Stripping. 114

Martial Soul Fusion Skills

A Martial Soul Fusion Skill combines compatible Martial Souls to produce power beyond either user alone.

Huo Yuhao and Qiu'er fuse the Ice Emperor and Golden Dragon Martial Souls, temporarily elevating Huo Yuhao to near-Soul Emperor strength against Cheng Gang. 159

A three-Martial Soul Fusion Skill, Dragon's Roar of Fate, allows Huo Yuhao to use all of his soul skills simultaneously and raises his aura to the Titled Douluo level when combined with Qiu'er's Golden Dragon Overlord Body. 266

Martial Soul Avatar

At higher cultivation, a soul master may use a Martial Soul Avatar. For Beast Martial Souls, greater similarity between the avatar and the original Martial Soul correlates with a higher fusion rate and stronger combat output. 48

Martial Soul Avatar is normally associated with the seventh-ring stage. Certain linked soul-ring abilities may replace the Ice Emperor Martial Soul's Avatar while providing stronger amplification and elevating ice-type soul skills to divine-skill level. 343

Soul Spirit Contracts

Soul Spirit Contracts allow soul beasts to become soul spirits rather than being killed solely for their soul rings. A contract can provide a Martial Soul with soul rings, soul skills, and continued support from the contracted soul beast. 26 32

Huo Yuhao advocates the system because it can improve relations between humans and soul beasts. He further develops it so soul spirits can continue cultivating, are not bound to the host's life and death, and receive benefits themselves. 32 260

Martial Soul stripping

Huo Yuhao can completely strip a target's Martial Soul through Predestined Death. After erasing Xiao Lixuan, he obtains azure-blue Martial Soul beads and a black cube associated with the stripped power. 183 184

Absorbing Xiao Lixuan's stripped Martial Soul advances Huo Yuhao's Spirit Eye to Golden Grade secondary awakening. 186
