The Basilisk's True Attitude

Is this Basilisk really not aggressive? Or was their eye contact just an accident?

Sean was a little puzzled.

His plan was that once he regained some strength and magic, he would take the Phoenix Feather Dumbledore had given him and make a run for it. But now, with no ability to resist, and as Dave had indicated, the Basilisk showed no desire to attack.

Dave wouldn't lie to him, and the Swooping Evil has a very strong sense of danger; it can sense the threat and aggression of other creatures.

It's a ghost...

As someone who has dealt with Magical Creatures for a long time, Sean has gained a lot of insight into their thought processes. And he has a keen intuition that he can tell immediately whether Magical Creatures is lying.

Dave always managed to catch him whenever he tried to cheat by wanting more brains.

Sean had a gut feeling that, at least for now, the Basilisk was genuinely friendly.

"Dave, make it put its head back in the water," an anxious Sean relayed.

It's unclear how the two Magical Creatures communicated, but after a while, Sean heard the sound of scales scraping against the ground, followed by the splashing of water, and then Dave relayed his thoughts.

"It turned around."

Feeling more at ease, Sean strained to lift his head and saw that at the hole, half of a huge snake's body was coiled on the ground, while the other half was submerged in the lake.

However, at this moment, the half-body of the Basilisk left in the Stone Chamber looked somewhat terrifying. Its thick body was covered with shocking wounds and torn or even shattered scales.

While not fatal, for a powerful creature like the Basilisk, it's likely it has never suffered such a severe injury since birth.

"Was I... good at it?" Dave asked, as if seeking credit.

Sean chuckled and laboriously lay back down on the ground.

"Well done..."

"It wasn't intentional... but it almost killed you... This kind of injury needs to happen at least five more times—no, more than ten—before it can barely be considered an apology," Dave usually ate and slept and wouldn't move without Sean's orders, was unusually preoccupied now. "Back then... that doesn't make up for its mistake..."

Sean chuckled, "Why does it sound like you're praising it?"

"No," Dave shook his terrifying head seriously, the crimson in his eyes still undiminished, "If you want... I'll go and bite it to death right now... It deserves it... Nothing is more important than you."

"Including pig brains," it added at the end.

A warm feeling rose in Sean's heart. Dave was getting more and more considerate, and Magical Creatures were much more reliable than humans...

"Dave, I'll treat you to a big meal when we get back..." Sean felt his body becoming more and more flexible, and he had gained a lot of strength.

He struggled to lift his wrist and glanced at the time: 7:30 p. m., and a full week had already passed.

Surprisingly, they didn't die of thirst or hunger...

Dave sensed his thoughts and telepathically replied, "I can't get through that hole; it's enchanted. The way back is also blocked. I go to call out to it every day, but no one notices—that snake throws a few fish over every day, and I put the fish blood into your mouth."

No wonder there was a film on my face, it turned out to be scabbed blood...

"Thank you so much, Dave. If it weren't for you, my family would really be mourning me..."

Sean lay on the ground for a while. After the Unicorn's Favor completely eliminated the excruciating pain in his mind, the treatment of his physical injuries became even faster. Before long, Sean felt his strength return to his body, and even the intense hunger had lessened considerably.

"Much better..." Sean sat up; he had finally recovered most of his strength.

The Basilisk seems to be very obedient; it has kept its head half in the water and hasn't moved at all.

Sean took out the Phoenix Feather, ready to summon the Phoenix if anything went wrong.

Only then did he have the energy to examine the Stone Chamber before him.

This appears to be a study or similar space that Slytherin once used. Ignoring the enormous Basilisk, the layout here doesn't seem particularly gloomy.

Sean focused most of his attention on the Basilisk's motionless body, and then began to examine the Stone Chamber.

Soon, he found a notebook on a table against the wall. Calling it a notebook wasn't quite right; it was more like a bunch of irregularly shaped parchment pieces glued together by some kind of magic.

Sean tested a few spells and had Obscurus sense them to make sure there were no harmful spells before gently lifting the rough cover.

On the first page of the parchment, there are several lines of narrow, ugly handwriting.

"The glory of Pure-blood is unparalleled! Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, those three wizards... Foolish! Arrogant! Never learn their lesson!"

"I have not left Hogwarts... My beliefs, my thoughts, and my magic will serve as stepping stones for Pure-blood, and then restore the glory of wizarding!"

"My descendants, if you see these records, remember what I wanted to do—"

The line below was blacked out and then erased, and the rewritten words appeared even more distorted. Sean could even feel the other person's indignation and agitation at the time.

"I will restore the glory of wizards to the earth! I will put those of noble blood in their rightful places! I, Salazar Slytherin, will give everything for this!"

Sean pursed his lips. It looked like something like a diary that Slytherin had written back then.

Sean turns to the second page and discovers that Slytherin has been painting a bright future for Pure-blood, then reminding their descendants not to forget honor.

On the last line, Sean noticed the font was smaller, suggesting that Slytherin hadn't been too happy to write it.

"My descendants, I will leave you my treasure—when you get Hogwarts back on track, drive out those wizards whose blood is not pure enough and who are not trustworthy."

"However, even if their short and humble lives are left behind, at least they studied at Hogwarts, and at least they were wizards—and a wizard's life is always more precious than that of other species."

"Never forget that you are of noble Pure-blood. Glory comes from your blood, but it is the wizards who make that glory shine even brighter."

Sean blinked. Sure enough, the Gaunt Family and later Pure-blood families had never understood Slytherin's philosophy. He did believe that Pure-blood was the noblest, but he never made up his mind to kill other Hogwarts people whose blood was not pure enough.

Come to think of it, if Slytherin were a psychopath, how could he possibly become close friends with people like Gryffindor?

However, whether it's Slytherin House or Pure-blood families, they seem to only remember the nobility of bloodlines... True Slytherin have become a minority...

Fate is cruel... Sean shook his head and turned to the next page.
