Background / History

Shrek Academy began as a small, unrecognized academy outside Soto City. Its entrance was a village archway with a tattered academy sign and admissions table; it had only three enrolled students and more teachers than students, leaving it close to closure. It recruited only “genius” Soul Masters while lacking the facilities and staffing expected of a formal academy. 20

Its enrollment standard required applicants to be under fourteen and possess at least level 21 Soul Power. The academy’s reputation rested on its unusual claim that it accepted only “monsters,” but its extreme methods produced only around a dozen graduates in its entire history. 22 23

The academy’s normal curriculum combined practical training at the Soto City Great Spirit Arena, physical training, and targeted teacher guidance. It did not risk sending its students into Death Duels, partly because several students had powerful family backgrounds. 33 34

Recognition and Academy Alliance

Shrek Academy was not recognized by the Academy Alliance and did not meet even Primary Soul Master Academy standards for teaching staff or facilities. Consequently, it lacked Alliance protection and was vulnerable to enforcement action as an unqualified academy. 51 52

After Flender led his associates against Canghui Academy, the Academy Alliance dispatched four Soul Douluos—two from Spirit Hall’s academy and one from each imperial royal academy—to investigate. Yu Xiaogang used a Spirit Hall elder token and later traveled to Spirit Hall City; Pope Bibi Dong subsequently ordered Spirit Hall’s academy to end its investigation into Shrek’s qualifications. 69

Shrek still could not obtain formal eligibility for the Continental Advanced Soul Master Academy Elite Tournament. Its initial plan was to have its students temporarily join Heaven Dou Royal Academy and compete under that academy’s quota, subject to an entrance test. 72 73

That arrangement collapsed after the Heaven Dou Royal Academy committee reconsidered its cooperation following Shrek’s conflict involving Ma Hongjun, Bu Le, and local nobles. The committee’s impression was further damaged by revelations about Shrek’s prior conflict with Canghui Academy. 91

Merger and Relocation

Following the failed Heaven Dou Royal Academy arrangement, Flender, Qin Ming, and Yu Xiaogang sought an academy willing to take them in. They found Blue Tyrant Advanced Soul Master Academy through a recruitment notice. 92

Liu Erlong agreed to let the Shrek students compete in the Continental Advanced Soul Master Academy Elite Tournament and considered renaming Blue Tyrant Academy as Shrek Academy. The later Shrek campus in Heaven Dou City occupied the former Blue Tyrant Academy site. 93 228

Students and Team

During the tournament period, Tang San, Ning Rongrong, Zhu Zhuqing, and Dai Mubai all possessed Soul Power above level 40. Ning Rongrong and Zhu Zhuqing were approaching level 50, while Tang San served as the team captain because Dai Mubai was no longer considered suitable in either strength or temperament. 135 133

Ma Hongjun was removed from the main lineup after Bu Le’s group physically modified him and abolished all of his Soul Power. Tai Long took his place as a replacement member against Heavenly Water Academy. 93 133

Later Fate and Knockoff Academy

After the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Family suffered disaster, Yu Xiaogang led its survivors to Spirit Hall City, where Qian Renxue killed him. Shrek’s other teachers traveled with him and were captured by Spirit Hall experts; their ultimate fate was uncertain, though they were believed dead or imprisoned. 228

Li Ang later created a counterfeit Shrek Academy in Heavenfall City at the former Shrek campus. Its outward appearance resembled the original academy, but its teachers and students were planted personnel whose actual mission was to wait for Tang San and lure him into a trap. 228

Trivia

• Shrek Academy’s second “Parents’ Meeting” was prompted by the influence of Ning Rongrong’s family, whose representatives were strong enough to overwhelm the academy. 40
• The academy’s students developed a poor reputation among other advanced academies due to harsh conduct in matches and conflicts with Canghui Academy and Heaven Dou Royal Academy. 91 156 157
