"What's the situation below?" Kayson asked curiously.
"A midnight duel between Slytherin and Gryffindor, nothing worth watching," Snape said coldly.
Only then did Kayson turn his gaze towards the source of the noisy sounds, but unfortunately, they were too far away to hear what was being said.
Moreover, both sides could be considered acquaintances: Harry, Neville, Ron, and Hermione, the four Gryffindor young wizards.
Kayson had thought their relationship with Hermione wasn't that great when he overheard Harry and Neville chatting earlier. It seemed that after Hermione helped Neville and gave him advice in his office that day, their relationship had improved.
The Slytherin young wizards on the other side were also acquaintances. Draco Malfoy was leading, and he didn't recognize the other two.
Speaking of which, Draco Malfoy's father, Lucius Malfoy, exuded a faint, restrained distance typical of the upper class, while his son was full of arrogance and boorishness.
Honestly, if it weren't for their almost identical bone structure and hair, he would have suspected...
He couldn't suspect. Suspecting further would be impolite.
"Isn't anyone going to stop them?" Kayson asked Snape again.
"They could, but it's unnecessary. Slytherin and Gryffindor have been feuding for so many years; there's no need to bother with these trivial matters. At most, it's just someone being nosy."
"Nosy?"
"That Muggle-born."
"...Mr. Filch? He's a Muggle-born?"
"And a Muggle-born who refuses to accept his fate. Most of the salary Dumbledore has given him over the years has been sent to a string of scammers targeting wealthy Muggle-borns," Snape explained, which was rare.
"I understand," Kayson nodded. The farce at the banquet hadn't caused even the slightest ripple.
Just as he finished dinner and was about to return to his office, Snape suddenly spoke.
"By the way, you and I need to go to that corridor later. I've finished refining the potion you mentioned last time, the harmless one. It's a Draught of Living Death that can take effect through air or skin contact, but I still need to put it into your alchemical creation."
"No problem, now?"
"Right now."
The two left the Great Hall and headed straight for that corridor.
As they arrived outside the empty classroom, Kayson suddenly produced a record player in one hand and a stack of records in the other, fanned out like a deck of cards, as he was choosing.
"What are you doing?"
"Hagrid said that if you play music for this three-headed dog, it will fall asleep. I'm choosing."
"There's no need for that." Snape shook his head, took out his wand, and walked straight in.
"It's nothing more than a beast; a simple Stupefy is all that's needed..."
"Ah!"
"I need music! Muggle Studies! Muggle Studies!" [music]
Kayson's mouth twitched uncontrollably. He immediately abandoned the record player and records in his hands and sent a piece of obsidian flying out. It split into three in the air and heavily struck the three heads of the three-headed dog.
"Hiss... that beast bites fast." Snape rolled up his trouser leg and looked at the bloody wound on his calf.
"You were too careless," Kayson helpfully supplied the excuse Snape was too embarrassed to give.
"Please, support me a bit."
"Of course." Kayson reached out and supported Snape's shoulder. Snape then took a bottle of bright red potion from his pocket and poured it directly onto the wound on his calf.
"Do you have any bandages or anything?"
"Uh, I think this should be about right, this thing, but it hasn't been sterilized." Kayson took out a large piece of wool, balled it up, and dampened it.
"It's fine." Snape took it and sprinkled more potion on it.
"It should be okay."
Snape nodded, bent down to bandage the wound, and then the two of them fought their way through to the final obstacle.
This once again confirmed the quality of Hagrid's traps.
The other professors, including Kayson, were setting up the challenges for Quirrell and Harry and the others to overcome.
Only Hagrid had the intention of killing intruders.
That's why he was so straightforward.
The two loaded the potions into the launcher. In the process, Kayson picked up a bottle of potion and looked at it curiously.
"This potion?"
"The real deal."
"Alright, though our potions might not be of much use this time."
"We can retrieve them later. Let's go."
The two returned to the empty classroom containing the three-headed dog. Kayson tentatively took out a feather and tested the big dog's breathing.
Because he wasn't sure if this big fellow had three sets of lungs, he specifically tested all three heads.
He breathed a sigh of relief only after confirming they were all alive.
After all, Hagrid loved magical creatures so much. If this big guy died, he would definitely be very sad.
"Are you alright?" he looked at Snape again.
"The three-headed dog's teeth had Dark Magic on them. Healing potions and Skele-Gro were useless; we can only wait for it to heal on its own."
"Uh, do you need my help? Like a wheelchair or something? Don't worry, it's completely magic-powered, so you won't have to push it yourself."
"No need." Snape's lips twitched.
"Alright, if you need anything, just have a student find me. Use a sealed envelope."
"...If I need it, I will."
"Uh-huh, do you want me to help you back to your office?"
"No."
Snape left alone with a livid expression, while Kayson's two favorability points from Snape mercilessly betrayed his carefully crafted persona.
"Isn't this just pure tsundere?" Kayson complained, not quite understanding.
Back in his office, he looked at the course schedule propped up on his desk. He had no classes tomorrow, which was great. He could stay up late tonight, or even not sleep at all.
This made him once again sigh about the comfort of elective course professors at Hogwarts, compared to the compulsory course professors who taught all four houses across seven years, with classes almost every day, starting at 8 AM.
Professors teaching electives were not just a little more comfortable.
Since the young wizards had the right to not take this course, most, if not all, years had all four houses attending together. This meant only four classes a week.
If Kayson pushed himself a bit harder, he could finish all four classes in one day, which would be almost like a vacation – effectively one day of work and six days off.
However, he didn't do that. Firstly, it was indeed too tiring. Secondly, having one day of work and six days off was highly likely to attract the attention of unspeakable entities.
And then they would assign him a bunch of tasks.
He was talking about Dumbledore!
Kayson's train of thought was so intense that he successfully lost the mood to quietly listen to records in his office.
