Background / History
Harry is collected from the Dursleys on his eleventh birthday by Kayson Heath and Hagrid. Kayson warms him with magic, while Hagrid gives him a birthday cake and introduces him to the wizarding world 6. Harry then travels with them to Diagon Alley to obtain his school supplies and wand, approaching magic with curiosity and excitement 7.
Although Harry considers Hogwarts his true home, he remains affected by the Dursleys' treatment and their restrictions during school holidays 149. Kayson repeatedly intervenes in matters involving Harry's safety, including confronting the Dursleys, protecting him from Greyback, and returning him to Privet Drive after time in Diagon Alley 7 147 150.
Harry later learns that he is a Parselmouth when Kayson and Dumbledore investigate a snake-marked faucet connected to the Chamber of Secrets mystery 123. He also becomes involved in the conflict surrounding Voldemort's Horcruxes, Sirius Black's alleged betrayal, and Peter Pettigrew's eventual exposure 87 193 207.
Appearance
Harry is temporarily transformed into a girl, known as Harriet, after taking a potion intended to secure a Yule Ball partner. In this form, he is described as strongly resembling Lily Potter and as exceptionally beautiful 296 298.
- His female form requires separate dormitory accommodation until the potion wears off 298.
- Draco Malfoy initially does not recognize Harriet as Harry and asks her to be his Christmas dance partner 298.
- Harry later attends the ball disguised as his usual self, leading Draco to discover Harriet's identity 302.
Personality
Harry is curious about magic and eager to explore the wizarding world, particularly when first visiting Diagon Alley and later when discussing magical devices and automation with Kayson 7 231. He is also determined and resourceful when faced with obstacles, such as Kayson's requirement that he create a Wither Charm before visiting Hogsmeade 182.
He can be impulsive when emotionally distressed. After overhearing Snape speak about Sirius and the Potters, Harry becomes angry enough to seek magic capable of killing Snape; his friends attempt to reason with him, and Sirius is disturbed by what he hears 194. Despite this, Harry listens to advice and seeks teachers who can help him develop safely 195.
Harry is compassionate toward Dobby and takes the initiative to free him from Lucius Malfoy using an item of human clothing 147. He also shows affection toward Sirius despite believing him dangerous at the time, and later builds a closer bond with his godfather after Sirius's innocence is revealed 133 207.
