Background / History

World Serpent emerged publicly during the Great Eurasian Disaster thirty years before the Spirit-world storyline. Its leader, Möbius, founded Schicksal as its public-facing organization after Spatial Quakes and Spirits began appearing. Schicksal's security division, the Valkyrie Organization, became the world's primary force against Spirits through Valkyrie Armor and Stigmata technology. 62

Before Schicksal changed its policy toward Spirits, it had killed several of them without ending the cycle of manifestations. The organization later determined that removing a Spiritron Crystal kills its current Spirit, but the crystal eventually disappears and produces another Spirit. 62 66

Yulande's rise solidified Schicksal's military reputation. After only four years in the organization, she became its strongest Valkyrie at age fifteen and killed the Spirits Berserk and Hermit within two months. Her subsequent two-year disappearance fueled worldwide speculation until she returned to represent Schicksal in Japan. 62 63

Schicksal entered a conditional partnership with Ratatoskr to address Spatial Quakes and DEM interference. It demanded transparency regarding Ratatoskr's sealing method, while offering protection to Spirits who no longer caused disasters. 64 70 71

Following negotiations led by Rita, Schicksal obtained independent administrative authority in Japan, allowing Valkyrie deployments without prior reports to Japanese authorities. 78

At an international conference, Möbius defended Schicksal's protection of Spirits by revealing that each Spirit reincarnation grows stronger. She rejected demands to release Schicksal's technology or surrender its operational independence. 88

After the Cosmic Spirit incident, Schicksal used evidence of hostile actions against it to pressure opposing factions. This secured control over roughly half of the world's national powers and cooperative relationships with the remainder, enabling worldwide Moonlight Throne deployment. 103

In a later world, Black Amber established another Schicksal under the identity of Theresa Apocalypse. This incarnation focused on fighting Demon Beasts and the Evil Organization, with Japan becoming its primary sphere of control. 104 107

Schicksal is effectively a one-person organization under its Archbishop. Möbius holds all authority in the Spirit-world incarnation; there are no conventional “higher-ups” capable of overruling her decisions. 71

Valkyrie forces

Schicksal's Valkyries serve as its principal armed force. In the Spirit-world incarnation, they are publicly described as Stigmata users, though they are actually Prometheus Soldiers fused with Gastrea genes. 63

Its formal enemy is not Spirits themselves, but the Spatial Quakes associated with their manifestations. Killing Spirits was considered necessary only because it was believed to be the sole permanent solution to the disasters. 86

After learning that killing Spirits merely creates stronger reincarnations, Schicksal began pursuing coexistence and sealing methods instead. It offers protection to Spirits who no longer cause Spatial Quakes, though most ordinary Valkyries still treat an encountered Spirit as a potential disaster and prepare for combat. 71 86 88
