Background / History
World Serpent emerged publicly during the Great Eurasian Disaster thirty years before the Spirit-world storyline. Its leader, Möbius, founded Schicksal as its public-facing organization after Spatial Quakes and Spirits began appearing. Schicksal's security division, the Valkyrie Organization, became the world's primary force against Spirits through Valkyrie Armor and Stigmata technology. 62
Before Schicksal changed its policy toward Spirits, it had killed several of them without ending the cycle of manifestations. The organization later determined that removing a Spiritron Crystal kills its current Spirit, but the crystal eventually disappears and produces another Spirit. 62 66
Yulande's rise solidified Schicksal's military reputation. After only four years in the organization, she became its strongest Valkyrie at age fifteen and killed the Spirits Berserk and Hermit within two months. Her subsequent two-year disappearance fueled worldwide speculation until she returned to represent Schicksal in Japan. 62 63
Schicksal entered a conditional partnership with Ratatoskr to address Spatial Quakes and DEM interference. It demanded transparency regarding Ratatoskr's sealing method, while offering protection to Spirits who no longer caused disasters. 64 70 71
Following negotiations led by Rita, Schicksal obtained independent administrative authority in Japan, allowing Valkyrie deployments without prior reports to Japanese authorities. 78
At an international conference, Möbius defended Schicksal's protection of Spirits by revealing that each Spirit reincarnation grows stronger. She rejected demands to release Schicksal's technology or surrender its operational independence. 88
After the Cosmic Spirit incident, Schicksal used evidence of hostile actions against it to pressure opposing factions. This secured control over roughly half of the world's national powers and cooperative relationships with the remainder, enabling worldwide Moonlight Throne deployment. 103
In a later world, Black Amber established another Schicksal under the identity of Theresa Apocalypse. This incarnation focused on fighting Demon Beasts and the Evil Organization, with Japan becoming its primary sphere of control. 104 107
Organization
Leadership and command
Schicksal is effectively a one-person organization under its Archbishop. Möbius holds all authority in the Spirit-world incarnation; there are no conventional “higher-ups” capable of overruling her decisions. 71
- Möbius / Black Amber — Archbishop, founder, researcher, and sole ultimate authority in the Spirit-world Schicksal. She directs expansion, political strategy, Spirit policy, and technological development. 62 71 88
- Yulande / Amber — Schicksal's strongest Valkyrie and a major field representative. Her personal support enables the protection and recruitment of Shiori, Kotori, and several Spirits. 62 70 100
- Rita — Yulande's adjutant and a key operational and diplomatic officer, responsible for negotiations, political reception, and rapid Valkyrie deployments. 63 72 78 79
- Theresa Apocalypse / Black Amber — Archbishop of the later-world incarnation, which oversees Valkyrie-led responses to Demon Beasts and interworld threats. 107 109
Valkyrie forces
Schicksal's Valkyries serve as its principal armed force. In the Spirit-world incarnation, they are publicly described as Stigmata users, though they are actually Prometheus Soldiers fused with Gastrea genes. 63
- Blade of Immortality — An elite Valkyrie unit deployed under Yulande's command. It was mobilized in Japan to counter DEM and AST during Spirit incidents. 73 79 80
- Valkyrie Organization — Schicksal's security department and the original main force against Spirits. 62
- Later-world Valkyries — Deliberately less enhanced than their earlier counterparts; their armor is developed only to the White Comet level, leaving them below Evil Organization executives but capable against Demon Beasts. 107
Territory and influence
Schicksal combines World Serpent's intelligence and logistics with a large armed force, making it the dominant global power in the Spirit-world setting. Ratatoskr and DEM would need to cooperate to rival it. 63
- Established a Japan branch after becoming involved in the Spirit incidents around Amemiya City. 72
- Gained independent administrative authority in Japan, allowing unrestricted movement and enforcement under Schicksal's laws. 78
- Operates the Schicksal Artificial Island, a floating fortress of roughly 180,000 square kilometers. 100
- In the later world, effectively controls Japan while retaining the country's nominal government. 104 108
Doctrine and Policy
Schicksal publicly declares that its Valkyries fight “for everything beautiful in this world.” 71 88
Its formal enemy is not Spirits themselves, but the Spatial Quakes associated with their manifestations. Killing Spirits was considered necessary only because it was believed to be the sole permanent solution to the disasters. 86
After learning that killing Spirits merely creates stronger reincarnations, Schicksal began pursuing coexistence and sealing methods instead. It offers protection to Spirits who no longer cause Spatial Quakes, though most ordinary Valkyries still treat an encountered Spirit as a potential disaster and prepare for combat. 71 86 88
Technology and Infrastructure
- Valkyrie Armor — Combat armor reserved for Schicksal's own Valkyries. It is not sold or publicly distributed. 97
- Stigmata technology — Enables Valkyries to surpass ordinary human physical limits; in the Spirit-world incarnation, the “Stigmata” system is based on Prometheus Soldiers fused with Gastrea genes. 63 97
- Imaginary Domains — Schicksal has mastered applications of Neighboring Realm power and uses Imaginary Domain principles to alter physical laws, including keeping its Artificial Island afloat. 88 100
- Quantum teleportation — Mature internal technology used for instantaneous travel between ground facilities and airships once sufficient local infrastructure is available. 85
- Moonlight Throne / Polarizing Lens — Möbius intends to deploy the Polarizing Lens globally; expanding Schicksal's sphere of influence increases the Moonlight Throne's output. 89 97
- Manifestation Devices — Schicksal possesses devices capable of large-scale physical-law manipulation, though externally provided versions are severely limited. 109
Relationships
- World Serpent — Schicksal's covert foundation and global intelligence-logistics network. 62 63
- Ratatoskr — Conditional partner in resolving Spatial Quakes. The relationship becomes closer after Kotori and Shiori Itsuka join Schicksal under Yulande's command. 64 99 100
- DEM — Primary technological and political rival. DEM's Manifestation Devices compete with Schicksal's internal Valkyrie Armor and Stigmata systems. 68 97
- Spirits — Former targets of extermination; later protected when their Spatial Quakes can be suppressed or sealed. 70 86 88
- Japan — Grants Schicksal independent administrative authority, making the country a major operational base. 78
- Evil Organization — Target of a sustained Valkyrie crackdown after the Moonlit Forest attack in the later world. 113
