Background / History
Oakes arrived in Hell more than 100,000 years before meeting Locke. After becoming a god, he joined the Black Stone Tribe as a guardian, but his damaged soul prevented normal cultivation and left him unable to advance despite his efforts. When the tribe's leader and other God-level protectors were killed in an ambush, Oakes used the tribe's savings to purchase two Low-grade Godheads and create new protectors rather than abandon its Saints. This act earned him the tribe's enduring loyalty and respect. 147
As the tribe leader, Oakes was nearly killed by a Soul Attack and underwent an incomplete soul mutation. Locke answered the Black Stone Tribe's Demon Castle mission, used Amethyst Crystals to support the mutation, and saved Oakes from death. 146
After recovering, Oakes initially intended to repay the cost of his rescue over ten million years. Instead, he accepted Locke's offer to swear loyalty in exchange for guidance and support for the Black Stone Tribe. Locke also gave him three wind-element Godheads for his wife, Yagonia. 147
Under Locke's instruction, Oakes cultivated the Water Law and acquired a second Divine Clone. He later regretted forming that clone within his body, since doing so prevented him from gaining an additional life through an external godhood breakthrough. Locke used the mistake to teach him that Soul Variant fused divine power alone could not replace the fusion of Law Profundities. 149 150
Personality
Oakes is deeply responsible toward those under his protection. He spent the Black Stone Tribe's resources to produce new divine protectors during its crisis, shared later rewards with Japar and Koster, and consistently treated the tribe's security as his own duty. 147 149
He is grateful and fiercely loyal to Locke, whose intervention restored both his life and cultivation prospects. Oakes follows Locke's orders across the planes, organizes intelligence and resource-gathering networks, and considers himself responsible when subordinates chosen under his oversight betray Locke's interests. 195 246 345
Although initially confident in the advantages of being a Soul Variant, Oakes recognizes his shortcomings after Locke's instruction. His later stagnation frustrates him, particularly because he cannot fuse the ninth Wind Profundity or bridge the Wind and Water Laws. 150 266 286
As a father, he is willing to sacrifice himself for Figueroa. He offered to bear Dannington's grudge in his son's place despite knowing that a Paragon vastly outclassed him. 332
Abilities & Skills
Soul Variant
Oakes's completed soul mutation gives him exceptional Soul Power and permits the fusion of Wind- and Water-element divine power.
- Fused divine power provides approximately a tenfold increase in strength over ordinary experts of a comparable realm. 149 245
- His mutation gives him the potential to fuse heterogeneous Laws as well as divine powers, though he never successfully fused Wind and Water Law Profundities. 332 286
- The advantage is reduced when opponents use Sovereign's Might, since he lacks the Willpower needed to fully control or fuse Sovereign's Might. 204 245
Wind Law and Sword Arts
Oakes specializes in the Wind Law and fights with a green longsword.
- He fused multiple Wind Law Profundities, including sound waves, music, the Cloning Technique, and the Windwalk Art. 180 187
- A single thrust can create dozens of sword shadows, each accompanied by vibrating sound-based Soul Attacks. 180
- His sword cry can disrupt and wound High Gods, allowing him to rout multiple opponents. 181
- His speed as a Wind Law Asura is exceptional, though still insignificant before a Paragon such as Dannington. 325
Water-element Divine Clone
Oakes cultivated the Water Law to create a second Divine Clone.
- The Water clone supplies water-element divine power for his fused divine power. 211
- It has fused only three Water Law Profundities, leaving it far behind his Wind clone in direct combat ability. 286
- Becoming a Water God within his body prevented him from creating an additional independent Divine Clone. 149
Command and Organization
Oakes is a capable administrator and military commander.
- Under his leadership, the Black Stone Tribe expanded to include five High Gods, ten Mid-grade Gods, and more than thirty Low-grade Gods. 187
- He built networks across the Seven Great God Planes and Four Supreme Planes to gather Divine Beast Essence Blood and intelligence for Locke. 230 246
- As commander of Locke's Sovereign Legion, he personally promoted legion captains and led the campaign against the Nether Sea pirates. 252 277
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Material-defense Sovereign Artifact — White defensive armor bestowed by Locke upon Oakes's appointment as Sovereign Envoy. It can be stored within his body, blocks the Thunder Chains around Nether Mountain, and protects him from even a Paragon's material attacks. It does not prevent Soul Attacks carrying Willpower. 241 252 330 332
- Green longsword — His primary weapon in Wind Law sword techniques. 180
- Metal Life — Used by Oakes and his family for long-distance travel. 238
- Sovereign's Might — Used in desperate combat; its restorative effects allowed him to endure Dannington's attacks, though it did not close the gap between them. 334
Relationships
- Locke — Master, benefactor, and later Sovereign. Locke saved Oakes's life, cultivated his potential, made him the first Sovereign Envoy, and entrusted major military and intelligence duties to him. 146 147 241 287
- Yagonia — Wife. Oakes gave her the three Godheads Locke had bestowed, enabling her eventual ascent to High God; they later traveled Hell together and raised Figueroa. 148 177 193
- Figueroa — Son. Oakes pushed him to mature, supported his entry into the Sovereign Legion, and tried to sacrifice himself to save him from Dannington. Figueroa was ultimately killed by Dannington. 239 241 332 334
- Japar and Koster — Black Stone Tribe brothers and trusted associates. Oakes's advancement secured Mid-grade Godheads for them and strengthened the tribe's defenses. 147 149
- Amanel — Former bandit whom Oakes recruited after recognizing his potential; Amanel later became loyal to Oakes and rose to City Lord of Black Stone City. 181 185 193
- Ryan and Yan Feng — Fellow subordinates of Locke. Oakes treats them with respect due to their long service to Locke and later joins them on missions and expeditions. 211 304 345
- Arganis — Pirate leader and rival Sovereign Envoy. Oakes fought him for tens of millions of years during the Nether Sea campaign, but their conflict remained unresolved after Arganis was drawn into Spatial Turbulence. 287 304
- Dannington — Paragon adversary who overwhelmed Oakes, killed Figueroa, and threw Oakes into Spatial Turbulence. 330 332 334
