Background

Zheng Shan was once a gifted Kaoshan Sect disciple considered likely to become a True Disciple. About twenty years before Wang Yuan's arrival, he clashed with Elder Li of the Execution Hall over irreconcilable principles. Refusing to yield, he left the sect, settled in Gaoye City, and founded Panshi Fist Academy. The old injuries he sustained in that period later hindered his cultivation. 123 168

As head of Panshi Fist Academy, Zheng Shan became an influential figure in both Gaoye City's outer and inner districts. He maintained strict academy rules and personally handled exceptional disciples and major threats to the academy. 4 7

During Wang Yuan's admission assessment, Zheng Shan immediately recognized the boy's Dragon Tendon Tiger Bone after Shi Long failed to classify it. Zheng Shan guarded Wang Yuan's seclusion while he studied the Mountain Rock Diagram. Soon afterward, he was badly wounded in Huang Chengzong's betrayal at the City God Temple, suffering both poison and internal injuries before Wang Yuan intervened and saved him. 89 94 95

Following the crisis, Zheng Shan helped stabilize Gaoye City and temporarily directed its defenses.
