Background

Chen Feng was a biologist from Earth who awakened on the Douluo Continent as an infant. He hoped to awaken a Biological Spirit that would suit his research interests, but instead received a damaged Tool Spirit: the Tai Chi Bagua Sword, resembling a sword he had found behind ancestral tablets in his previous life. Five of its eight Bagua trigrams were blurred, initially limiting him to three Spirit Rings and a maximum of level forty unless the Martial Soul could be repaired. 1

He chose research over indiscriminate killing to repair the sword. By befriending Su Yuntao, he obtained access to the Nuoding City Spirit Hall library and spent two years studying Martial Souls and Spirit Beasts. 2 He also deliberately befriended Tang San, initially viewing Tang's future Blue Silver Emperor bloodline as an irreplaceable research opportunity; their relationship became genuine as Chen Feng helped Tang San become less withdrawn through conversation and stories. 2 3
