In the original work, the relationship between Teacher Kai and Yamato isn't exactly fatherly love and filial piety, but at the very least, they are irreconcilable.

Yamato is Teacher Kai's daughter, meant to be the future heir of the Beasts Pirates and the princess of Onigashima.

Ian turned around.

A boy, as sturdy as a small mountain, strode quickly from the corner of the hallway, a happy look on his face. "I heard you went to quell the invaders with Boss Kaido!"

"Oh, isn't this Jack."

Yamato waved cheerfully at the approaching person.

"Big Sister Yamato!"

The excessively tall child respectfully greeted Yamato.

This was the future Drought Disaster, Jack, who was the same age as Ian but three times his height.

He was a fish-man Teacher Kai had taken in last year. He was also exceptionally talented and was being groomed as a future executive of the Beasts Pirates.

After greeting them, Jack looked at Ian expectantly, "How was it? Big Brother Ian, you must have been very active!"

"It's a long story."

Ian shook his head.

Waking up so early wasn't for a date with a five-year-old brat; this was training time.
