Background

Yu Xiaogang is a descendant of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Sect whose martial soul mutated malignantly into Luo Sanpao. The mutation left him permanently stalled at Level 29 and with poor combat capability, though his knowledge and talent in martial soul theory allowed him to retain standing in the soul master world. 7 16

He was formerly part of the golden “Iron Triangle” with Flender and Liu Erlong before the group disbanded. He later lived in seclusion at Nuoding City Junior Soul Master Academy, where the dean continued to support him despite students and teachers deriding him as a freeloader and “useless Master.” 15 16 330

When Wang Xiao arrived to enroll as a work-study student with Innate Full Soul Power, Yu Xiaogang immediately went to assess him. He correctly reasoned that the Blood Chicken Vine alone could not explain Wang Xiao’s aptitude and suspected that the boy was concealing another martial soul. 16 Wang Xiao subsequently revealed the Chicken Blood Vine and Thunder God Hammer to him, while continuing to hide his two angel martial souls. 17

Personality

Yu Xiaogang is withdrawn and intensely devoted to martial soul research. His interest in rare talent outweighs social niceties; news of an Innate Full Soul Power commoner immediately draws him from his dormitory to meet Wang Xiao. 16

His manner is often cold and blunt, but he is willing to assist promising students. He lends Wang Xiao a Spirit Hall token to enter Soul Hunting Forest after learning that Wang Xiao has reached Level 10. 18

Later, his inability to advance beyond Level 29 and the loss of his standing within the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Sect fuel resentment. His conflict with Wang Xiao worsens after Wang Xiao becomes Dean of Blue Tyrant Academy and Liu Erlong rejects Yu Xiaogang’s attempt at reconciliation. 344 347

Nuoding City Junior Soul Master Academy

Yu Xiaogang meets Wang Xiao when the latter attempts to enter Nuoding Academy early as a work-study student. Intrigued by Wang Xiao’s Innate Full Soul Power, he admits him and probes the inconsistency between that aptitude and the Blood Chicken Vine martial soul. 16

After Wang Xiao reveals the Thunder God Hammer, Yu Xiaogang witnesses his status as a Twin Martial Soul wielder without realizing that two more martial souls remain hidden. 17 He later provides his Spirit Hall token so Wang Xiao can enter Soul Hunting Forest. 18

Blue Tyrant Academy Conflict

Yu Xiaogang reunites with Liu Erlong at Blue Tyrant Academy, only to find Wang Xiao has become the academy’s dean and has taken Liu Erlong’s affection. A confrontation with Wang Xiao becomes physical, while Yu Xiaogang’s resentment deepens over his lost sect status and stalled cultivation. 344

His later attempt to reconcile with Liu Erlong fails. Wang Xiao openly confronts him over his past and continues to humiliate him. 347
