Background & History

Gu An entered the Taixuan Sect's Medicine Valley alongside Meng Lang and Li Ya. As a handyman disciple, he discovered that harvesting spiritual plants and animals could seize and add their lifespan to his own. He concealed this ability immediately, completed his assigned harvest meticulously, and earned eighty-eight years of lifespan from fifty Red Spirit Flowers. Zhang Chunqiu rewarded his diligence with the Spring Wood Technique. 1

He secretly used lifespan to evolve cultivation techniques, beginning with the Dragon Force Divine Origin Technique. Although this strengthened his body and senses, he deliberately kept his blood, qi, and aura suppressed so that he still appeared frail and unremarkable. 3

When Zhang Chunqiu left Medicine Valley, Gu An accepted the position of head disciple rather than risk Meng Lang taking control. He gradually became responsible for the valley's cultivation, harvests, and younger disciples. 9

Gu An later expanded Mystic Valley, cultivated medicinal herbs, refined pills, recruited disciples, and became its valley master. He also took control of Tianya Valley after earning Luo Hun's respect through the Heavenly Abode Sword. 36 51

While maintaining the image of an ordinary herb farmer, Gu An operated under several concealed identities. As Pan An, he wrote Investiture of the Gods; as Sword Venerable Fudao, he gained worldwide renown for his Sword Dao; and as the Green Hero, he aided suffering people while confronting demons. 70 120 167

His cultivation eventually outgrew the Heavenly Spirit Great World. He founded and guided Wushi, protected disciples and allies across eras, confronted Heavenly Court forces, and became a figure capable of creating variables that even the Great Dao could not easily contain. 630 701 1116 1128

Appearance

Gu An normally presents himself as a youthful, approachable Medicine Valley disciple rather than a powerful cultivator. He deliberately conceals his aura and can alter both his form and presence when necessary. 3 188 1017

  • Maintains a youthful appearance even after long spans of time. 1017
  • Has a golden Dao Pattern on his forehead, which can shine like an eye when activated. 398 412
  • Has been described as exceptionally handsome when appearing in Heavenly Soldier armor. 988
  • Frequently uses plain robes, masks, transformations, or suppressed cultivation to avoid recognition. 76 188

Personality

Gu An values a quiet life of growing herbs, reading, and observing the world. He repeatedly rejects fame, authority, and competitive ambition, even when others urge him to seek prestigious positions or reveal his talent. 73 99

He is cautious and patient, preferring to hide his strength, avoid unnecessary enemies, and prepare techniques before they become urgently necessary. His restraint is practical rather than cowardly; when his valleys, disciples, or allies are threatened, he acts decisively. 6 88 120

Despite his increasing distance from ordinary cultivators, Gu An remains attentive to those around him. He teaches disciples, protects talented youths, gives resources without demanding repayment, and takes genuine interest in watching others grow. 10 81 157 481

He also has a playful side. Gu An enjoys acting innocent before people who are searching for his own secret identities, teasing arrogant cultivators, and quietly appreciating the absurdity of situations only he understands. 70 226
