"One squad is wiped out, the second is combat ineffective." The cold voice in his ear made Bruis's eyes turn blood red.
"Squad Four, snipe, snipe! Squad Three, provide support. Where's the medical team? Quickly, hurry and get Squad Two out."
"Yes, Officer."
"Bang! Bang!"
"Roar!"
In the sky, Squad Three piloted their airships, weaving through the battlefield. Their constant attacks drew Fenrir's attention, while Squad Four used the ruins of the ancient city to conceal themselves.
Holding a specially made energy cannon, they fired precise shots with highly penetrating energy.
Fenrir roared in pain, clutching its eyes. Though it had lost its intelligence, its combat instincts took over, and it locked onto the hidden sniper squad.
"No, Squad Four, dodge, quickly!"
"Clang!" Sharp claws sliced through, and the tall wall in front of it crumbled like tofu.
The battlefield grew more intense. According to Yuan's calculations, their battle would likely end soon.
One Taotie after another fell. Yuan knew he couldn't wait any longer. Even if there wasn't a good opportunity now, he had to create one. Otherwise, they wouldn't last much longer, and the situation would worsen.
"Qiming, bring the God-Slaying Spear over."
"Understood, Master. Preparing to equip you with the God-Slaying Spear."
"Bruis." Hearing Yuan's call, Bruis quickly disengaged from the fight and rushed over.
"We can't drag this out any longer. With Dark Alloy Weapons in hand, your battle armor won't hold."
"Yes, Your Excellency. We have no other choice. Don't worry. Even if we fight to the last man, we won't let you get hurt."
Yuan waved his hand. "That's not what I mean. After calculations, there's only one way to stop Fenrir now."
"You mean the God-Slaying Spear?"
"Correct. While the God-Slaying Spear can't deliver a killing blow, it can create an opportunity for the warship's main cannon. But Fenrir's speed has already far surpassed the warship's targeting rate." He said, his eyes fixed on Bruis.
"I'll do it, Your Excellency. Although they are all elite Taotie, I am the most adapted to command operations from the central system. This way, the chance of success will be greater."
Bruis's unhesitating reply made Yuan's gaze deepen.
"Master, I have it."
"Quiet, we'll talk later." Yuan interrupted Qiming's voice, looking at Bruis with regret. As a commander he admired, Yuan didn't want him to go to his death.
After all, Yuan had only interacted with Cole and Bruis; he didn't have much of a relationship with the other Taotie.
While it might sound cruel, that's just how it was. The death of someone he didn't know well was regrettable, but Yuan wouldn't be heartbroken.
"As someone who started as a Science Officer, you should have guessed the next course of action. You have no hope of survival."
"Hahaha, Your Excellency. As a warrior, I've long been prepared to die on the battlefield. Please give me this chance. Even in death, I won't let it harm you!"
Explosions and curses echoed across the battlefield, yet Yuan felt a profound silence around him.
"Volunteering to die?" His lips moved slightly, as if he had thought of something. He wanted to speak, but under Bruis's gaze, he couldn't.
"Here, go." Yuan sighed and agreed to his request. After speaking, he turned to pick up the God-Slaying Spear. But suddenly, he felt something was wrong.
"Where's my God-Slaying Spear? Why is there only one? Where's my huge spear? Qiming!" Yuan turned around, looking at the single God-Slaying Spear, and shouted in anger.
"It's with me, Your Excellency." A voice, unfamiliar yet somewhat familiar, sounded from the edge of the battlefield.
"It's you, Cole. What do you want? Qiming, what's going on?"
"Master, I was just about to tell you. The former commander, Cole, persuaded the guards and escaped. He also snatched a God-Slaying Spear along the way. Many of the warship's weapons have been deployed on the battlefield, and I couldn't stop him."
"What do I want? Don't you know?" After speaking, his fierce eyes stared directly at Yuan and Bruis. He toyed with the God-Slaying Spear in his hand, exuding an astonishing killing intent.
"Cole, the God-Slaying Spear's key has been changed. You can't use it. Don't be stubborn anymore. Hand it over. This is not a time for jokes." Cole's actions made Bruis turn pale with shock.
Sensing Yuan's heavy breathing behind him, Bruis became even more anxious.
"Cole, don't make another mistake. The soldiers can't hold on much longer. Hand over the God-Slaying Spear. With only one, I don't have the confidence for a killing blow."
"That's because you're useless." Bruis's words didn't sway Cole; instead, he spat out angrily. Yuan, however, seemed to notice something was amiss and stopped condensing the Dark Energy in his hand.
"After all, you're just a Science Officer. Even as a commander, you can only be bound by the calculations of the central system. Moreover, the God-Slaying Spear doesn't necessarily have to be activated by its key; a commander's blood can also do it."
Saying that, he drew a short sword across his hand, and blood stained the entire spear. A faint red glow slowly lit up, and the God-Slaying Spear was successfully activated, its killing aura filling everyone's eyes.
"Damn you, Cole, what are you doing?" Seeing the God-Slaying Spear activated, Bruis roared as if he had lost his mind.
This was just a disposable God-Slaying Weapon that had leaked from the Academy. Once activated, it had to be used within a short period. Otherwise, once the activation energy dissipated, the so-called God-Slaying Spear would just be a slightly harder weapon.
"I said, it's because you're useless. If it were me, one spear would be enough for a killing blow." Cole held the spear, chest out, and looked towards Fenrir, which had stopped its actions in the distance and was looking around.
Almost the instant the God-Slaying Spear was activated, Fenrir sensed the threat. It looked around; its combat instincts told it that a great danger existed in the distance.
Soon, the pupils in its giant eyes rapidly shrank, and it spotted Cole holding the God-Slaying Spear in the distance.
"Roar!" With a furious roar, Fenrir no longer cared about the energy cannons blocking it. It charged towards Cole with lightning speed, appearing beside him in an instant.
"Bruis, you are not a qualified warrior at all. Indecisive, too many thoughts; but, you are a qualified commander. You have brought hope to the Taotie." After saying that, he gave them both a deep look.
Especially Yuan, as Cole looked at him, his eyes became incredibly complex. Yuan seemed to understand what he wanted to convey and nodded.
Having received the answer he wanted, Cole laughed spiritedly.
"As a commander, I will teach you one last lesson. A warrior must never place all their hope in a calculation system."
"Hahahaha, I am Commander Cole, willing to die for Your Excellency!"
