Background

Chen Yue is a transmigrator whose initially poor innate soul power left him unable to rely on conventional cultivation alone. His system rewards marriage and offspring, with greater rewards tied to a partner’s innate soul power; this drives his early search for a suitable family to marry into. 4 5

He formerly held the position of Guard Captain of the Pope’s Palace in Martial Soul City. His permit to leave the city was issued by Bibi Dong, and he retained a Guard Captain token, an Honorary Elder token, and documentation allowing him to travel. 4 25

After hearing of public recruitment for live-in sons-in-law, Chen Yue chose to pursue the Gu family of Skywater City. His abnormal soul-ring configuration—two purple rings and one black ring as a Soul Elder—won the attention of Gu Wuji and the three Gu family heads, including Gu Qinghan. 5 9 He later became the Gu family’s live-in son-in-law, though he was uncertain whether the arrangement benefited or constrained him. 22
