Background / History
Founding
Su Wen conceived the Academy as a force that would preserve and circulate cultivation inheritances rather than allow powerful martial souls and techniques to fade with time. Dugu Bo agreed to support the proposal, and Su Wen named the planned organization the Academy 83.
Its early model was deliberately distinct from an ordinary sect. Xiao Zhan described it as resembling Spirit Hall before Qian Xunji’s tenure: an organization that could include members of other forces while focusing on theory, research, and the advancement of the Soul Master World 147 148. The Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect supplied funding and prepared a site enclosed by three mountains outside Heaven Dou City 150.
The Academy initially had very few personnel. Lin Dong, its second recruited student, learned that Ye Luo Chen was the only earlier student and that the rest of its foundation consisted of Su Wen’s friends and elders 164.
Public Establishment
Su Wen formally announced the Academy during the Soul Master Competition. He declared that it would gather knowledge from across the world, develop theory, and make its knowledge public under the principle “Knowledge is Power.” 183
At its announcement, the Academy's elder lineup included:
- Ning Fengzhi, Sword Douluo, and Bone Douluo as honorary elders. 183
- Dugu Bo and Fire Demon Xiao Zhan as official elders. 183
The Heaven Dou imperial family publicly offered unconditional support, while Spirit Hall later supported the Academy's stated purpose and expansion 183 184.
Continental Expansion
The Academy established branches through cooperation with local academies rather than replacing them outright. It promised that students of cooperating institutions could receive theoretical study and guidance through the Academy 184.
Heaven Dou City Academy and Star Luo City Academy became two major headquarters. A third, equal-status headquarters was subsequently established in Spirit City, where its Mountain of Books and Sea of Learning was integrated into Spirit Hall Advanced Soul Master Academy with Bibi Dong’s approval 224 231.
Su Wen later linked the Academy’s branches into the World of Learning, resolving the problem of distance and allowing members across the continent to access its resources remotely 233 235.
Expansion Beyond Douluo Continent
Su Wen established Academies in all Seven Great Cities of Sea God Island as part of his divine assessment, giving Sea Soul Masters access to Soul Seals and the World of Learning 263.
On the Sun Moon Continent, he sought cooperation with the Sun Moon Divine Sect and selected a northern valley as the regional headquarters site 323 329.
On the Vast Continent, the Academy began with a branch on Heavenly Jewel Island and construction in sixteen Zhongtian Empire cities. It later gained cooperation from the Five Great Holy Lands and developed into a prospective sixth Holy Land for Heavenly Jewel Masters 384 392 395.
Purpose and Principles
- Knowledge is Power — knowledge is treated as the foundation of personal strength and the driving force behind the Soul Master World's development. 183 224
- Public theory — the Academy publishes cultivation theory, martial soul-development research, and its own methods rather than restricting them to a single bloodline or sect. 183 190
- Open affiliation — members may retain membership in other factions; the Academy does not reject sect members or members of allied academies. 183 384 386
- Research and verification — scholars test theories such as Martial Soul Growth Theory and Martial Soul Evolution Theory across Academy branches. 231
- Civilian protection — the Academy does not intervene in wars between Soul Masters, but it will not permit such conflicts to harm civilians. 412
- Non-territorial expansion — it seeks influence through education, cultivation methods, and communication rather than monopolizing resources. 375 395

Influence
The Academy reshaped Soul Master education by making cultivation methods and theoretical planning broadly accessible. Within six years of its founding, the proportion of people awakening soul power had increased severalfold across Douluo Continent, with nearly every village producing at least one child with Innate Soul Power 436.
Its direct disciples and scholars developed the profession of Martial Soul Development Planner, using theory to identify and build individualized martial soul-development paths 436.
The World of Learning also transformed the Heavenly Jewel Master World. Within roughly one year of its opening, the number of Heavenly Masters had at least doubled and the number of Heavenly Venerates had increased by half, largely through the cultivation knowledge it distributed 406.
